I have 2 gathering characters, one is a miner/herber and the other a skinner, that have stopped getting the material that gives knowledge. This started this week, I have gathered with them for hours and not had a drop. My wife who is gathering beside me received 11 of them in 20 minutes. Last week my experience was the same as what she was doing and now I am getting none. I have put allot of points into perception just to get these drops and now it is a 0 drop rate over hours. Help please.
Disclaimer: Disregard my post if you’ve already completed the trainer quest, have missed points from previous weeks and you’re still not getting drops.
TL;DR : check that you’ve completed the weekly quest from the profession trainer, otherwise the catch-up sources won’t unlock for you.
Weekly sources for herbalim:
- 1 treatise on herbalism (once a week): 1 point.
1 note from the quest you pick up at the herbalism trainer after you reach skill level 25 (once a week): 3 points.- 5 petals from gathering herbs (once a week): 5 points (1 each).
- 1 rose from gathering herbs, after you got 5 petals (once a week): 4 points.
Total : 13
Catch-up sources
- Roots from gathering herbs, only available after you completed the trainer quest and gathered the petals and roses from the weekly sources : 1 point each.
The number of roots you can collect depends on how many of the weekly sources you’ve missed since launch. If you just picked up the profession, it should be 120 total (12 per missed week).
There’s a handy weakaura to track all these sources (search for Myu’s Knowledge Points Tracker), otherwise, the drop is fairly quick, if an hour has past and you don’t get any more roots, then you’re probably caught up.
This is the same for mining and skinning.

The catch-up drops from Herbalism and Mining will only drop AFTER you’ve done the weekly quest turn-in with the appropriate trainer AND gathered all of the normal weekly point drops.
And after that you’ll only find catch-up point drops if you have any catchup drops backlogged from missing previous weeks’ drops.
There’s a Weak Aura called Myu’s Knowledge Points Tracker which gives you a very simple window frame that shows what point sources you haven’t collected on any given character (gathering and crafting professions). It even has a color coded display that shows when you’re actually eligible for gathering catchup drops to show up from gathering once you’ve done the trainer weekly and collected all of the normal weekly point drop items.

This is the only WA that I use, and for most of my characters this works perfectly. My one character an Herbalist / Inscription, the Herbalist still shows I can get +2 from harvesting nodes, the same 2 points I been trying to get for weeks, so I don’t know if that 1 character is extremely unluckily, or she is bugged. I usually try for a couple hours once I get the Rose, and finally usually give-up.
Unfortunately the herb and mining ones are 100% RNG even for the basic weekly drops. Every time you gather a herb or ore node, you have a chance to have a knowledge drop appear in the loot table just like you do for any of the rare reagents you can get from that node. From what I can tell, just like the rare reagents, the knowledge drops (normal and catchup) do seem to be impacted by Perception. When I actually think about it, and decide to restock my herbs and ore, I always pick one of the efficient routes and slap on a True Vision phial and a +Perception tool. That toon also tends to be my primary fisherman (HM Tauren racial FTW when fishing), so I also make a point to stop off at any Festering pools I see for the bonus perception buff from tossing ghoulfish back as well.
One thing you might try just to confirm whether that 2 points is real, slap on one of the other WA’s or addons that track catchup points available just to compare.

I might do that in trying to find another tracking program to compare. Most of the time I find most of my herb, mining, skinning knowledge points within an hour if passive farming or less if I strictly farm materials because I want to get there KP out of the way.
Of my main 7 characters per week I play, this is the only character not caught up on gathering and as I stated the same two points I’ve been missing for weeks. On any new character I level per week it always seems like I find more herb KP faster than mining KP.
Do you have any recommendation for another tracker to compare? I don’t use Weak Auras for anything else but do wish the patrons would drop more KP tasks then other items so some of my professions could catch-up instead of being 30+ behind.
If it’s the 2 points from something other than a catchup drop, then pretty much any TWW profession addon or weakaura will work for helping to identify which one you’re missing.
If you still can’t figure out what the missing points are you can try deleting the addon’s file under your characters folder in the WoW folder then re-logging into them to refresh it.
But I’m willing to bet there’s probably just one somewhere that you missed. Lord knows I had to go back and grab some I had forgotten from my stable of alts with overlapping professions across both factions and 3 servers.

The missing two points are from Deep-groove Roots. Each Root is worth one point and they are Red until you get the Deep-grove Rose. At which point the catch-up becomes into play and these are the same two points I continue to lack.
I just looked at my main which is an Alchemy / Herbalist, and she has 280 points into her gathering. My Herbalist / Inscription also has 280 points so unless I created books for her which I think I did and it multi-crafted then they both seem to be correct with a glitch on my one character being off. Though I know I made a book for one of my characters and got a double craft on one of them.
But yes, this week all of my characters got caught up on catch-up with gathering but this one character. If only my professions could catch up, some being 30+ points behind.
