There is a pervasive problem throughout the World of Warcraft, social media and the entirety of the English-speaking world that has been plaguing our discourse for decades. The time has come for it to STOP once and for all! I am talking, of course, about the heretical misuse of “you’re” vs. “your”. This is not a spelling error, it is a failure-to-understand-basic-grammar error. And it is well past time to correct this travesty of language. To wit, I shall explain the simple difference between the two, and I expect the entirety of WoW players to never confuse the two again – ever!
“You’re” is a contraction of “you are.” You use it when you want to say “you are” in a shortened form. Example: “You’re going to the store.” “Your” is what grammar literate people refer to as a possessive adjective. It indicates ownership or belonging, meaning that something belongs to “you.” If you can replace the word with “you are” and the sentence still makes sense, use “you’re.” If you’re showing that the players gonna play, play, play, play, play and the haters gonna hate, hate, hate, hate, hate, baby, I’m just gonna shake, shake, shake, shake, shake, I shake it off, I shake it off (hoo-hoo-hoo). Heartbreakers gonna break, break, break, break, break. And the fakers gonna fake, fake, fake, fake, fake. Baby, I’m just gonna shake, shake, shake, shake, shake. I shake it off, I shake it off…
And that’s how I saved Christmas. And the English language.
