I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again, KNOCKBACK EFFECTS DO NOT BELONG IN PVP WHATSOEVER.
I just lost a solo shuffle match because a knockback blew me right out of the terrain and disconnected me from the game.
Tell me again how it balances out play to have several classes with an easy insta-kill mechanic. And yes, it is an easily exploitable insta-kill mechanic. That’s why people use it. It has nothing to do with defensive play.
Does blast wave have knockback training wheels on it? I swear this knock never seems to fail by having its targets hit a pebble or uneven terrain. It feels like it lifts you up before launching you super far then you’re stuck with a 70% slow when you land. It’s the only one I find myself malding over aside from MW crackling lightning one that thankfully nobody talents into.
and what about RBGs? Should they just remove all of the maps where knockbacks are exploited to kill players (sometimes whole groups) in one shot? EotS? AB? Twin Peaks?
Blizz used to be clear that they didn’t want any one-shot mechanics to ever be usable by players. Now several classes have one and it is ridiculous.
It’s way too strong for it to be available to all mages.
But, just generally speaking. I think it’s a great example of what’s inherently wrong with the more modern approach to specs & CC.
Blast wave knockback for fire mages? Cool, great.
Blastwave knockback for Arcane & Frost too, lol? why?
Same goes for DB or any other stuff.
Imagine like, idk, subtlety having outlaw’s increased blind range. Or outlaw & assassination having shadow dance. (oh wait) They’ve turned things that were core strengths and unique functions of individual specializations, deep specializations, and made them broadly accessible. I don’t think this is the kind of resource the specs should be sharing.
FWIW i love knockbacks, and z-axis maps. But I really dislike homogenization of CC & the current class design being like “I want old class design.” “we have old class design at home!” Old class design at home
nah fire shouldnt have it either. give it back to healer priests and hunters. the most mobile caster in the game, the excuse melee gives for having disgusting mobility themselves, should NEVER have a knockback.
I mean, sure that can be it’s own conversation. My point was that these kinds of things shouldn’t be class wide but a specialized kit.
I really don’t like the word never. But yeah, generally speaking, mage is the last class that needs one.
Way more healthy to have like, idk, mage position so that priest could knockback using their old ability. That’s way more interesting than just embracing their inner ele shaman because you too are a thrower of instant casts.
Also a side note but way back in wotlk fire mage had a knock back, maybe in tbc too actually idr.
It was much weaker and didn’t feel as bad. I mean it suuuuuucked getting kited by it but it was in a different age with different mobility thresholds. I do often wonder if mage knokcback wouldn’t be an issue if it wasn’t so potent.
i get your point but “the spell school, animation, and or 1 damage of this instant ability looks fiery” is not a reason i like for giving fire mage access to thunderstorm
