I was committed to playing Monk for WWI, but my Warlock by comparison is utterly wrecking Tier 8 delves. Wind Walker feels so slow and damage is just nothing compared to say Demonology. Is there something I am doing wrong, or did Blizzard intentionally screw us over again? If the latter, any suggestions on another and similar class I can swap to that would be a ‘safe’ long term bet? Not Druid. I can’t stand Shapeshifting.
I would do Paladin but for some stupid reason, only Zandalari, Blood Elf and Tauren can be them. Orc Paladin or Darkspear Troll would sure be nice. Getting tired of so many arbitrary reasons and considering going back to Dawntrail.
Oh don’t get me wrong. I can do them fine. I’m just saying that there is a noticible difference in doing them when I play as a Demonology Warlock, vs. when I play as a Windwalker Monk, and it’s more than a little depressing to see such a disparity when the Monk is far better geared. Mobs die rapidly from my Warlock. I can usually tap dance through it and never be in any real threat. But my Monk? It’s an active grind and slog that is protracted at times and frustrating by comparison.
It feels like the class just isn’t keeping up with others at all, and so I begin to wonder if I’m wasting my time.
Funny seeing some of the replies here compared to his post a little bit down:
Um, personally, Brewmaster and WW struggle comparatively way, way more than my DK and Paladin, for sure, either tanking or dps. I make my friend tank for me for my monk, and I tank for his dps on my paladin. Smooth as ice
I’m currently gearing out my monk, but doing tier 8 delves on my enhancement shaman at like 603 ilvl solo, I get trucked, absolutely stomped. When I said that in guild chat, a WW monk in my guild said he had no issues soloing tier 8 delves as WW, so when I get my ilvl up I’m going to compare.
I find this odd, I was doing 8s as enhance at like 570 and while challenging, very doable. I just levelled my bm monk and took him through a couple 8s and he’s 582 now, was around 575 when I did them. They were an absolute breeze on him compared to the enhancement.
From my experience with WW monk (sometimes BM), WW monk is a difficult class to play. In DF, it was all Versatility with some crit, but no haste. In TWW, it’s all haste with some versatility. Sadly, this change had some side effects with the Whirling Dragon Punch. Due to very high haste your CDs became shorter, so the time window to use WDP is much shorter. You have about a second to use it or you lose it. Often times, due to the ground effect or others, you have to move/dodge. That means WDP window is lost or you take the risk.
Overall, now I know why haste was bad in DF. The penalty of not using WDP to be safe is just a massive dps loss.
A very small grace period. Less than half a second which is off-set by the high haste. Even this window is gone when both RSK and FoF both become available.
Because I am losing out on the WDP, I tried the Stomp build and it felt flat. Even with some WDP not used, Stomp build just couldn’t cut it.
I don’t see a problem. Sure monk doesnt compare to DK especially blood but clear speed is usually faster because of mobility. I just have to make sure I use defenses properly instead of just going in leeroy jenkins and surviving. I haven’t died on my monk once I got used to the delve mechanics.
I play WW conduit build and brm master of harmony in delves. Both of those makes the content trivial.
