Killing addons alienates older players

I’m pretty okay with losing all these addons. They trivialized encounters to the point of an arms escalation between system mechanics and add-on authors.

I’m old. Been playing since you know when. Actually considering jumping back into some casual raiding or mythics too.

This is WoW, not a twitchy FPS.

They are saying they could do a lot of things now. But will they?

My whole thought on the whole Addon debate is similar to WoD and their original stance on removing flying back then.

Both are a case of trying to put the genie back into the bottle. Now granted they plan on doing their own versions of the various addons player use but the question is , "If their in house addons fail to perform to player standards will there be a backlash from players like there was in regards to no more flying in the past.

Like I said genie in the bottle.

I’m well on my way to 40 and I’m feeling that in my reflexes. My position is that it depends entirely on how Blizzard handles encounter and class design… if it’s truly tuned for the absence of addons then there should be no problem.

Are they removing the one button rotation?
I think they’ll be fine

I think catering perpetually to the oldsters has been a detriment to the game

Good.

I’m tired of people who complain every time the game becomes more approachable, or the ultra hardcore have their golden pedestal slightly shortened. And I’m really sick of people who have a meltdown any time any new concept is introduced to the story.

If killing addons makes those players quit, I see that as an absolute win.

I think we found the one-button rotation main.

Man, visibility for the thread is good, but some of you are a bit too “passionate” about this. There’s no need to be disagreeable or rude to each other.

Well can you give any examples of what kind of information you’d like to see baseline that they haven’t put out in their previews?

Here is a link to that by the way:

What is missing? Now is the time to be specific in your feedback about what you’d like to see.

I’m pretty passionate about it and I especially enjoy the personal attacks they’re making against you as well the ageism and assumptions on your personality :+1:

really, im almost 40 and have been playing since bc, this isn’t going to alienate me, maybe you but not me

You’re a hero for sharing this but part of me has lost faith that they’ll do the implementation well

Do you have a recommendation for seeing this in action / is there a demo video or stream that you know of ?

There was never any need for the elitists to be mean to the rest of us.

And yet they were, and now they’re getting that treatment turned back on them.

It’s called Karma.

Bro why do you think OP is an elitist? Why do you assume that everyone who enjoys higher end Pve gameplay is rude ?

Rude people are going to be rude regardless some of the worst most entitled people I know don’t do high end content

Killing addons will hurt wow a lot.

Mark my words…they don’t know what they’re about to do

I’m sorry but if you think hitting a button every 1.5 seconds or having to actually watch where you’re standing or what the boss you’re fighting is doing is too difficult without addons telling you when and where to pee and how vigorously to shake it to make sure you got every last drop off is the only way you can go without staining your underwear, then maybe this isn’t the game for you. I hear Hello Kitty Island Adventure is getting new DLC soon.

I’m not a big fan of Preach but he did put out a video of his experience with the UI in the alpha:

One day somebody will actually value you and think you’re worth the trouble and not just an inconvenience to be tolerated.

Nearly almost every other game in existence works just fine without WA’s and addons. In fact most are successful because they don’t rely on them like wow currently does.
