Killed during Mind Control by a "Friendly" Rogue

Today I was killed at lvl 24 by a fellow faction member rogue while mind controlled by the Jailor NPC in Durnhold Keep. The rogue messaged me and said “Sorry I thought you were enemy”…

  1. Callouts are against the ToS.
  2. The Rogue technically did nothing wrong according to the rules of engagement. Blame Blizzard, not them.
  3. If you had an RP-Friendly name, you could give the Rogue benefit of the doubt that they thought you were a named mob who might drop a cool quest item or are Jailor Eston’s bodyguard.
  4. You have created a duplicate thread on this.
  5. By posting this, you are drawing public attention to the issue and will likely encourage copycat behaviour.

Good response, I’ll flag for deletion. I didn’t realize it was a duplicate, the website logged me out with an error on the first submission so I didn’t know it was posted, and by then I was fuming and made the callout.

All good, friend. I empathise with your frustration. And maybe the guy was a scumbag knowingly exploiting this game play mechanic.

I’d encourage you to report the player if you suspect he was (EG, if he is camping the spawn) but at very least submit a ticket or make a thread on the bug report. Unsure if Blizzard will do anything about it but no harm in trying if you think this is an oversight.

Apart from that, best of luck on your next toon and maybe consider skipping that quest next time.

people get such tunnel vision i wouldn’t be surprised if it was an accident :expressionless:

Even if it’s not an accident its still hilarious and also part of the games mechanics.

dude dont apologize to this white knight blizzard boy. what happened was totally wrong. that rogue did it on purpose and blizzard should 100% do something about this

To be fair, a lot of people just see a red nametag, and start attacking. It likely wasn’t on purpose. But, even if it was, you engaged the mob that can MC, and death by a player is part a possibility. Sad, but it’s just how it is.

Not as bad as me earlier going to buffalo wildwings for some habanero mango wings only to find out the registers were down

You were mind controlled, so you you attacked to rogue even though you had no control over it? Do I have this right?

Then the rogue attacked you, because you were with the Jailor, and thought you were the enemy?

If this is true, and the rogue apologized, I don’t see any wrong here. They could have easily mistaken you as the enemy.

I mean… since Vanilla… if i see a buddy get MCed i hard switch and immediately try to kill them. Its fun.

Most players don’t realize when a friendly gets mind controlled. They just see RED = DEAD. Thus unless you’re running with people you know, you have the risk of dying to mind control.

Considering how many times my guild members have killed each other on Heroic Neltharion I wouldn’t be surprised either.

More than once on raid nights, we hear “Someone killed me while I was Corrupted”.

Someone made a reddit post a few days ago about dying to the same thing (rogue killed him while he was mind controlled) and then someone else posted a video of themselves making a beeline straight into the building, intentionally killing the aforementioned guy and leaving. He was significantly overleveled and only went there to kill the MCd player but censored his name as griefers tend to do. I honestly would skip the quest now that people know they can kill players on the quest and blame it on not knowing better.

yeah, steer clear of anything that can MC :expressionless:

Definitely report players doing this. It’s clearly against the rules of engagement and probably also an oversight/bug on Blizzard’s part.

No, it isn’t.
