Kill Target Question

What’s the first spec you go after in 3v3 or 2v2, and also the one you stay away from?

So basically, what spec is the easiest to kill and hardest to kill (assuming all same ilvl and played correctly)?

Feral, enhance, warriors, warlocks, any spec that doesn’t have a bubble, iceblock, turtle ECT, is usually the best kill targets, also going casters will reduce the damage they are able to put out which can help keep you on the offensive so they are usually target for this reason too

Thank you… what few specs do most groups stay away from?

You go after the squishiest spec in Solo Shuffle since you only need one kill to win.

Yes I get that.,… and what are those? The hardest to kill and easiest is my question.

S.Priests, Mages, Warlocks, Warriors, Rogues, sometimes Hunters.

I don’t like fighting Paladins, any kind of Druid, or DK.

Whatever I perceive to be the most killable or pressurable :dracthyr_blob_dance_animated: Hitting shadow, demo, etc, can force them to reduce their output while they also take a lot of damage whereas chasing a mage with no dispel is unfavorable to meeeee.

Monks can die easily if they aren’t played well, but any monk paying attention to the fight can live for a long time.

In my humblemost experience so far, I have found that rets are actually not so invincible as some people may think. I feel like they are the KT more often than not in my lobbies.

Evokers are also pretty squishy. If you’re playing a comp that can hit them and/or keep hitting them then it’s huge.

Boomies are KT 90% of the time and they do die statistically. They have the highest first blood status.

Spriest is actually not always the KT despite being easy to hit. If there’s a Spriest and a Mage, I have seen my DPS say they wanted to hit the mage instead. PVE specs like Fury Warrior opt for priest often though.

There isn’t really a objective definition for the kill target, you kind of just have to figure it out on your own. I have seen every spec be the kill target, and sometimes them not being the kill target.

Blood DK is never the kill target though.

Depends on a lot. What are you playing? The best target is almost always the target that you’re either connecting with the best OR the one that pressuring mitigates the most damage. Going feral and forcing them bear and stopping them from cloning might be better than hitting a target you have better damage on. Or you might have to go on a more tacky spec like a lock because you’re going to have the best uptime and it will slows their damage/cc. Sometimes though, it’s just whoever you can smack around the most. Other times it’s considering avoiding cleaves damage and not stacking or just staying off a dps because you know you can CC them.

The simple answer is whoever you can pressure the most and have the most uptime on.

You go lock ret arms enhance. Once you force their big wall they should die

depends, sometimes you pick targets to limit the damage/cc theyll put out, other times youll pick a target cuz it flops

just depends on the matchup rlly

It depends on a lot of things.

This. There is no simple list we can give you to help you decide a kill target. There are way too many factors you have to consider when making this decision. Also once you get past like 1800, picking one “kill target” is no longer optimal, and your best kill target will change throughout the match depending on how the match plays out. For example, if I’m on my destro lock and I’m up against warrior / marksman hunter, we will probably call the hunter as the main target. But if the hunter is playing so far back and max ranging me that pushing in to kill him puts me in a bad position while their warrior is playing super aggressive and won’t stop tunneling me, then my best play is to swap to the warrior and try to drag him behind our pillar.

The higher rated you get; the more important target swapping becomes. Swapping to another target after they pop a big defensive like pain suppression or astral shift can help you to maintain your pressure. But it’s not always the best play to do this because sometimes you can kill them through their defensives. Suddenly swapping to a healer who is out of position or isn’t paying attention to their slowly dropping HP bar can generate a lot of pressure. Swapping to the other dps target who is overextending out of position can force them to trade some defensive cds.

Things to consider when choosing a kill target:

  • -Who is the easiest to kill (e.g. hunters can delete mages, warriors can easily kill priest/DK/warlock, and mages can give warriors a really hard time.) Easiest kill target is kind of like rock paper scissors because some specs are strong against casters, some are strong against melee, and some are just immortal depending on the current balancing of the patch (e.g. demon hunters last expansion).
  • -How much enemy pressure can you negate by tunneling them? For example, you may be up against ele/aff, and ele may be the slightly easier target to kill, but sitting on ele doesn’t really affect their dps output too much while tunneling the aff will make him do 50% less dps, then aff is the obvious kill target choice. Tunnelling a mage will make it much harder for them to get off polymorphs.
  • -What is the enemy win condition and how can you avoid it? For example, disrupting the opener against RMP is extremely important.
  • -What defensive cd’s are currently available to the enemy team? Swapping to the mage who wasted his ice block to get out of cc is probably smarter than to keep tunneling the windwalker monk who still has karma available.

Sometimes alternative strategies can also be very strong. If you are playing a melee cleave into a caster cleave, sometimes split DPS can be your best option (each melee sitting on 1 different caster). Sometimes tunneling the enemy healer can be your best option, though the higher rating you are the less effective this becomes. If you are playing walking dead into ret/warr/rsham, then perma sitting on the rsham while cleaving all 3 enemies can be a strong strategy.
