So, I was doing quests in Drustvar on my Worgen Rogue, killing lizards for some glands or something. I see a Worgen Druid killing the same mobs so I decide to help him as well as myself by helping them finish off the pack of mobs. After two or three times doing this I get a tell:
“Stop Kill stealing or Iʻll report you”
… ?
I thought that couldn’t happen anymore. Since we are both Alliance, as long as we both do damage we both get XP and loot. Has this changed?

kill stealing isn’t a thing.
even if they reported you, nothing would happen

It’s happened to me before, just laugh, ignore, and move on with life.

It can’t really, not like they are thinking. There are tag caps but they are pretty high now. If its just the two of you then you certainly are not “kill stealing” as you should be be getting the tags.
It is possible he started with Classic WoW and decided to try retail and as such is conditioned to thinking only one player can tag an enemy outside of grouping. So perhaps he just didn’t know, but no you are right that you can’t really “steal” kills anymore like that.

Shoot I don’t mind it and prefer it. You got a quest, I got a quest let’s get it done. Most of the time the other person figures it out and we start pulling our mobs to each other and wam bam done…
What I do find annoying is when a dot class just dots and moves on so they get credit for the kill but doesn’t help kill them. I don’t pout about it though. I kill the mobs and move on (ain’t nobody got time for that).

He must not know that kill sharing is a thing now. Like someone said, probably someone from classic who migrated over.

Only way it would cause a problem is if either of you were in a group I believe.
Beyond that he is dumb. Even if you were “kill stealing” I don’t think that is a reportable offense.

I believe the limit is 5 tags, correct? Or it use to be, not sure if they upped it. So unless he was in a group, I’m not sure how this could be.
Was he a skinner and you weren’t looting? I hate it when someone does that to me.

Well this is no longer a thing on the same faction.
However being a rogue and having to sneak up on stuff we should get a hunter type mark to pre-tag the targets we are about to target. Cause frankly it sucks being one second from your opening stab and having a horde hunter yoink it away.
You jumped in to do your quest too. Nothing wrong with that. The kill goes to both, that person is wrong to say its stealing. I would have been inclined to go ahead and damage everything in sight and not stick around to help…
Many players even at 120 still don’t know that all mobs can share a tag.
It’s just the old player mind set was conditioned so well into them.
or having one of the many 120’s in the zone that are killing for rep/drops/mogs, or what have you, swoop in and one shot the thing you’re sneaking up on.
That is true as well, a 120 can kill steal in low level area’s.

The only time you won’t get credit from a kill from the same faction is if too many people have tagged it before you did. If it was just you two, you’re fine and that person obviously doesn’t know the tagging system changed quite a long time ago.
happened to me several times in deepholm this weekend. I don’t blame them, they need the kills as well, for whatever reason. I’ve had to many times in the past.
The difference is, I try to look for level-appropriate players that are hunting the same area and try to make sure I don’t cause them any grief.

He may have just been joking.
Coming from stuff like EQ (well, and even VANILLA, Jarringly remembered when I tried “Classic.” ) , I’ve said this out loud in Wow as a joke
I’ve said stuff like
“KSER!” or "Killstealer!
"
In Wow it is good if people jump in, clears mobs faster and everyone gets loots/rep/quest credit whatever.
