but each time i try to update it tells me something went wrong with a file. everything seems to be working on my end- i want to make sure no one else is seeing the same issues
edit: it may be pertinent to mention, about five hours ago i was kicked offline with a message that changes were made to my account. i had made no changes, so this was puzzling… but i saw in general chat and guildchat others had been kicked with similar messages, so I surmised it was a blizzard backend change with some weird legacy scripting or something.
If there were changes made to my account, I didn’t make them, at any rate.
I didn’t get kicked, but when I logged out I got an update. It went through just fine for me. I would try running the Repair tool.

It had to do with the DF trial ending.
Restart your computer and see if Bnet can update.

Thanks for the reply. I did try to run repair, but that too is acting a tad strange. I keep restarting the client and getting the same result
If restarting the computer doesn’t fix it, I’d suggest asking in Tech Support. Let me see if I can find a support article for you in the meantime.
Also: delete your cache folder in your retail folder of WoW.
Also also: here’s the support article!
You may need to do a fresh install of WoW then.

It shouldn’t need to go that far, hopefully. There are steps to follow before we get to that point.

Right, but if those steps don’t work the nuclear option is the only one left.
I know, I’m just making sure we get to all of the steps, including Tech Support and tickets, before a fresh install has to happen.
That update error means something in still running in the backend, a PC restart fixes it, but also going into Task Manager and finding any WoW resources still running and killing them fixes it.
