Thanks community. Pre-bought the game, finally have enough time after my semester ends to start leveling and investing into the game again after being absent for 2+ years. Third dungeon I queue into I get insta-kicked because I don’t have a “drake” to “fly the winds” with.
Asked how to “ride the wind”, get booted from the group. Don’t really want to keep playing now. Thanks for the 30minute penalty for being a returning “new” player again. Appreciate the gatekeeping mentality.
EDIT: Didn’t expect this kind of response. Thank you all! I was mostly just venting and appreciate the feedback. I’ll give it another whirl tomorrow. It just took me off guard after being excited to come back and play again.
P.S.: I had no idea how soon the drake was awarded, I was just queueing for dungeons (like I do in almost every MMO) while questing. Was just excited to get back into healing.
EDIT2: I eventually logged back in during the night and got my dragon. Took about another hour.

You get your dragon fairly early in the first zone. Just progress through the main quests (with the larger, rectangular icon around the quest symbol) until you reach the ruby life pools. That’s where you get dragon riding.

Ah ok, that’s good to know. Thanks!

OP, you should have reported the people. That is the only way this type of thing stops.

Yah, sometimes I need that.

To be fair you get your first drake so early in the expansion (like, the first hour?) that it’s very hard to understand how anyone wouldn’t have it and would be already at dungeons.
A lot of the expansion is designed around dragonriding, so the very first thing you should be doing is the first few campaign quests to unlock it asap, it will make your life a lot easier.

That said, people really are rude in dungeons. You don’t actually require dragon riding for that dungeon, but people are impatient. It’s a problem that’s not easy to solve, unfortunately.

They deserve to be kicked. They were dead weight. Honestly the fault is more on Blizzard for even allowing someone to queue for a dungeon they mechanically can’t do or Blizzard should have added a failsafe auto jump or something.
Either way, OP should be questing to unlock dragon riding.

Haha, I already paid for it. It spoiled my night for now, but I guess I’ll try again another day maybe.

to be fair to the group, he literally couldn’t do the dungeon without the mount, he actually was dead weight.

The idea that you need some prep to play with other human beings even in a game shouldn’t come as a shock.
Do you think if you were running dungeons naked it would be any better received?
It’s like 15 minutes of questing. Suck it up unless you can solo every five man.

That’s good to know! I didn’t realize it was so early. I was just excited to hop on again and heal!

Wait, you had to have had your drake by the time you’re eligable for that dungeon right?

I take it this is the dungeon that people zoom around in using dragonriding and the updrafts scattered about the instance?
They really shouldn’t have made this dungeon available to queue for until after you get your dragonriding mount (which doesn’t take long at all, btw).

This is my main gripe. Why is it even available to me if I don’t have it? :-/

If not having a dragon is an issue then Blizzard should not have allowed him to enter the dungeon via the dungeon finder. They did not do this, so they did not see this as an issue. Therefore, he should report those people.

I agree.
the solution isn’t to report players that simply wanted to run the dungeon though like you suggested.

It takes two seconds to say, “click on my drake and I’ll carry you there.”
It’s a leveling dungeon, not M+.

I made a suggestion to blizz through their contact in game about it. I thought about reporting the group, but I guess it’s not really their fault in the end.
