Here are my thoughts on it…
I think there are times that people get vote happy at the slightest wrong move, but I think they are far and few between (imo). I’d say 90% or more who get kicked did something that the kick was warranted.
I have never been randomly kicked but I’ve seen it happen personally.
Unless you get kicked over and over, I’d just use it as a lesson learned to be more aware of your surroundings.
I’ve only been kicked maybe 3 times without knowing the “reason”, that said I have witnessed several attempted kicks for no good reason. I usualy vote “no” for stupid reason kicks.

I’m sorry it got to that point, it’s a shame and I agree with you. I only wanted to make a joke because that’s all you can really do. I’ve been in your shoes before and I’ve seen many others in the same position. It never goes the way the Op expects it too.

Reasons I’ve seen in the kick dialog:
“.”
“zzz”
“rag”
“im bored”
It’s great that people try to prevent other players from playing for 30 minutes using earthshattering reasons like these.

I usually put ‘…’ because the person is so bad everyone knows the reason.
If I had to guess its a premade group or randoms that have been requeing and working through a bunch of alts to get the weekly done before reset. As such they probably want to get it done as fast as humanly possible. Any player that can’t keep up is likely to get the boot in order to ensure it stays fast.
In the future if you get into one of these types of groups where the tank pulls massive amounts:
- Don’t attack anything until the tank stops.
- Use a defensive while the pull is being gathered. If the healer tries to heal you they are going to get threat. You have a lot of options here as a pally.
- Its better to arrive late to the pull and avoid aoes, pulling extra adds, etc than be dead and force people to wait for the entire run back.
This tends to be the kind of group where your dps isn’t needed. You’re just there to get a chance at loot or free xp depending on the dungeon type. If you force people to slow down you are likely to get the boot.
If you really need one here are the four most common:
“”
“AFK”
“Baddy”
“sfkjhsad”
Take your pick at random but none of them are helpful.
Not saying something is my way of being a decent person. I tend to be rather blunt which to people who don’t know me can be off putting and be considered rude. If I get to the point where I’m going to kick someone, I’ve learned not to say anything because telling them what I think leads to angry whispers for the next 10 min.
Now granted in a heroic I wouldn’t have kicked but I would be a bit irritated if this has happened multiple run in a row.
Edit: As a side note if you know you are going to be kicked than initiate a kick on someone else and put the reason you think they will kick you. Most people don’t pay attention and will accidentally kick someone else instead. Than when you get kicked or leave you shouldn’t have the debuff because you are not the first person to leave.
Ya know, I keep hearing about all these “totally random/I did nothing” vote kicks and am still trying to remember the last time I got kicked from a run. Pretty sure it was Legion. I was tanking, asked the DPS to stop pulling since I was the tank, noticed they were all in the same guild, and could feel it coming. Did I come off as rude? Possibly. But I have never just been randomly kicked for being silent and doing my rotation. There are only two reasons you got kicked:
You deserved it, or you were getting trolled.

The real problem is that I would be happy to play with the OP. As a tank. But we can’t do that because scumlords dominate the ques and there’s no limit on how many people they can kick or for what, so they kick everyone.

Why not just do a M+ key where them kicking you mostly means a bricked key? A +2 is pretty easy.
Isnt dungeon finder where people are supposed to learn to ‘get gud’, as many like to say when people complain M+ is too hard?
Folks will just crap on you to make themselves feel better. Regardless of who may have had a part in the issue.
The system is a sham, and expectations are absurd. For this reason, there shouldn’t be a time penalty if kicked. If they feel their group isn’t fir you, fair, but the deserter debuff shouldn’t come in to play, allowing you to join another group that is more your pace.
Happy gaming!

Sure, but that doesn’t mean those four other people have to allow you to stay if you’re causing them problems
- Do dungeon finder to ‘git gud’ before joining higher tier content
- People have the right to opt out of playing with you
They’re not mutually exclusive ideas. Sometimes you’ll get kicked in the process of getting good, and that’s okay.
This is why I like Delves so much. Brann would neve kick a struggling undergeared player who is still learning a new spec.
yea, no kidding. Tell that to my coccyx.
Agree. Just dont slap that person with a 30 minute deserter penalty. Great way to deflate new comers and learning players from growing the game.

Game can’t differentiate between new players and veterans or reasons for getting by kicked, and it is this way because not having it negatively impacted more people than the current system does
This is also spit of the bull.
You want to play with OP? Go to their realm and send them an ingame piece of mail with your btag offering. If they accept, now you can play together (assuming same faction since it is queue content we’re talking…but even that is easy to overcome given how fast it is to level).
And if you make 1 more friend, you’ll have kick immunity…and 1 more friend after that and you’ll have full kick powers.
And 1 more after that and gee golly don’tcha know you just got yourself your own dedicated group.
Its just a reflection of the community. It used to be much different.
The best tanks wouldn’t let a mob touch you, even if you aggroed.
Good Healers would rather die first before they would let you die.
Group synergy was important.
Today, you have tanks doing whatever they want and blaming you for their mistakes.
Healers letting you die slowly if you catch the tail end of an aoe spell, and not rezzing you when you die.
Its the culture. Its rotten. That’s why we have posts about removing the roles now. Its chaos.
People just wanting to do whatever they want, when they want. Its selfish and against the whole spirit of group play.
And Blizz allowed it to happen, and even fostered it in ways.

You’re just going to get trolled coming here OP.
“OMG I got kicked!” These threads are common and while it is understood you are venting, nothing is going to improve for you coming to GD and fishing for sympathy.
Take the 30 mins to go smoke a Marlboro and laugh it off. Think about how to do better next time.
You made a mistake and need to take responsibility for that, crying you got kicked is not it.
Is the penalty harsh? It doesn’t matter, we don’t control the majority vote system.
If you constantly fight folks trying to defend yourself, you’ll just show people that kicking you was the right thing to do.
While I tend to agree there should be some expectation, it feels like we are at times on the way other side of the spectrum.
Pulling a single extra mob pack doesn’t really seem to be critically impacting the lives of the four others.
Also and more importantly there should be a safe space for people to play and learn. Leveling dungeons seem like one of those spots. Personally I see much more toxic behavior in leveling dungeons than I have in heroics and up.

As if Deserter wasn’t bad enough.
