So this is kind of a repeat topic given I made comments about it in the PTR forum before launch. Before this hammer was a full repair every hour then it was nerfed to the ground. The proc chance for indestructible is very low and frankly we only really have two pieces we can make and even then can be replaced easily by a titanforged item.
If anything this item feels extremely lack luster, it either need to be brought back to the full repair every hour or at the very least enable you to apply the indestructible trait to your items. The big thing when we first saw this was: Blacksmiths COULD FINALLY repair their own gear and only for that to be thrown out from under our feet.

Its not even worth the time to get it, i submitted feedback on this when it was first put on the ptr.
Why is it so hard to make something decent? Full repair would have been a fine addition.

I agree. Blacksmithing definitely has one of the worst ones. It is reducing the repair cost by 1 item out of 8 - 1/8 every hour. Yuck. Make it an 8hr cooldown and repair all. Hell, 24hr even. At least then it feels cool getting a full repair.
Some of the other tools of the trade are also underwhelming.

A full repair every hour somewhat breaks the repair system for plate wearers. Though I do like the idea of a full repair on a daily cooldown. I think Blizzard might have been shooting for more frequent cooldowns however to keep players logged in for an extra 5 minutes to repair that one additional item or transmute their bobble one more time.

Honestly having a full repair once every 20 hours would be okay imo.

Yeah, some change or buff needs to be made because it’s pretty underwhelming at the moment. Blacksmiths kind of have a hard time as a viable profession as it is…so some personal utility would be nice to offset that a bit. A full repair every hour might be a bit strong, but every 12 hours might be fair.

Well to go off topic slightly: Nearly all crafting professions are underwhelming in comparison to what they used to be.
All crafting professions need to be able to create things and for it to be viable, crafting needs to be a viable end game gearing template as well as M+ and Mythic Raiding and 2400+ PvP.
Right now as a whole crafting is a damn joke and frankly this hammer shows exactly how much of a joke it is.
I feel the one for LW is also bad.

It is hugely underwhelming. When I got it I thought it was going to be so cool. I would save so much on repairs as long as I was vigilant about using it on cooldown. I set it to one of my action bars so I’d easily be able to see the cooldown timer. Only being able to repair one item is really annoying though because every time I go to use it I have to check the durability on all my gear to make sure I’m using it on the most damaged piece. So far this thing has saved me maybe 200 gold tops. The Expolsum alone (10 was it) could have been used on other things to get me 30-40k on the AH. That means, not counting the time it took me to farm the quest mats, this hammer has me sitting 29.8 - 39.8 thousand gold in the negative. I know I’ll get more use out of it over time but at this rate it will be a year before this thing pays for itself.

Pretty much : / also id suggest just use it on the chest plate. Best way to deal with this is let gear get low and you will find the chest costs the most all the time. Use hammer on that, repair the rest naturally.
I second this. Being able to repair your own gear as a smith should have been a thing since Vanilla, IMO, not only that but I feel what repairing is to smiths, portals are to mages… smiths should be able to repair their parties gear provided we’ve placed down a usable anvil and stay in close proximity to it.
The one item, one hour use for this smithing hammer is absurd and it should be changed back over to all gear. I honestly would take an extra 30 minutes on the cooldown if thats what Blizzard feels makes it “balanced”.
As far as profession as a whole goes… upgrading gear should also just be a thing again. I was partial to WoD’s upgradable gear system and wish it had stuck around with just a tad less grind for mats and expanded to -all- gear. It made the profession actually feel useful…

This item is incredibly underwhelming. I’m happy with the benefits of the Alchemy and Enchanting tools but this one is just so disappointing. As people have noted we’ve already crafted our gear and the single item repair is a bit of a joke and kinda feels like an insult. Looking forward, if in the next expac our crafted gear was proccing as “indestructible” that would be useful but I cannot see that happening. I can see it being hotfixed to only apply to items from BFA.
I really have to wonder what people would be saying if they never posted an original version of this item that was able to repair all gear.
For me, the same as I’ve said. I like the Alchemy and Enchanting tools, the procs they give feel useful and worth the effort required to craft them. This one just feels wanting. I’d be interested (and I haven’t yet tested this) if the indestructible proc applies to everything I craft now regardless of which expac it’s from, but I would be genuinely surprised if that was the case.
I would have the same opinion of it as I do of the drums of battle on-use that leatherworkers get. Pointless and stupid. I am not going to repair 1 piece of gear every hour to save myself 10-20g when I could just repair ALL my gear at once every time I go to vendor grey trash in my bags…no button clicks required thanks to add-ons.

All I know is I just want crafting to be relevant and a big part of the game. There virtually is 0 point it feels now and that makes me sad
It’s really unfortunate to see other professions like Alchemy get a super useful item that i see being used all the time. Then being a blacksmith i get this joke of a hammer. To repair 1 piece of armor per hour. What a complete joke. Jewelcrafters can get free gems from alters and then blacksmiths get nothing. Maybe make the hammer break down gear for more mats then the grinder. Anything but 1 per hour

Sad days T----T gib better hammer
Well today is the first time I even knew that there was a better version of it before. When I first looked at it on its release day, it felt not worth doing (I’ll still do it at some point … because must do all quests…). It’s very underwhelming, especially if you are in an active enough guild to where guild repairs cover you.
I dont think anyone would have said anything tbh. The only remarks made would have been probably: CD too long or something like that. But the backlash wouldnt have been as big for sure.
