Keystone 101

There’s Drustvar or check-PvP for PVP stuff, what’s the best way to learn about keystones? I only PVP so I virtually know nothing about keystones (e.g. do you need consumables, aim for +10 for mild difficulty?). Just looking for some general tips as a healer to see what I need to learn (if anything) before queueing.

Honestly there so much depth that it’s hard to know where to start.

I hate to send you elsewhere for help, but I think the wowhead guide is pretty solid.

The difficult thing is that there are so many unspoken rules that you can only learn by seeing others do it, or doing it wrong and being told off.

Low keys are basically free if your group knows how to face mobs and hit buttons. I would honestly suggest jumping into keys at the 5 range and then work your way up as you feel comfortable. Healer’s are at a premium so finding groups should be fast.

Just run content, and adapt. Brick keys, learn.

I would check out the Mythic Plus site I use to check weekly affixes. It has a lot of great info not just about affixes, but keystones in general (keep scrolling).

There are also usually some mythic plus guides on wowhead/icy veins for your specific spec/class to learn more tips for how you can deal with dungeons or affixes once you get comfortable with lower keys and want to learn more. I also really like Quazii Masterclass videos to learn more about each dungeon (search Quazii WoW on Youtube).

Difficulty is also subjective because it’s based on a combination of your skill with the class, the group’s skill, your gear, and your knowledge of the dungeon. How the tank and the rest of the group plays will really impact how easy it is, too. I healed a +10 earlier before reset (highest I’ve done on that character since it’s an alt) and it was chaotic and difficult due to the lack of interrupts, accidental pulling, and obvious lack of mechanic knowledge in general. If I was on a character I’m more comfortable with, it probably would’ve felt easier, too.

I agree 5s are a good place to start and see how it feels for your comfort level. Keep practicing and know that sometimes you will test your limits and, at times, fail and learn.

Simplistic:

  • learn your AoE heals, spot heals, defensives.
  • avoidable mechanics
  • dispels
  • mana conservation
    Consumables:
  • flask
  • mana/heal pots
  • food

After that it’s just trial and error, the more you do fights, the more comfortable you get knowing when damage goes out.

I’d second this advice. Just find a class you think looks fun to play and get to it.

Maybe even gear in heroics for practice, then spam 2s until you feel like you’re comfortable using your kit, then start climbing.

Also, being over geared for stuff makes it a lot more comfortable so if you get a bit too high for your gear, keep in mind that getting a few new pieces of gear can make a dramatic difference in how keeping people up will feel.

Those sites will help you see about whatever you’d need to.

You can use u.gg/wow for some build options and ranking stuff. Raider.io has links to some routing stuff and Dorki and Megasett have both put out “doing the hardest pulls” vids on YouTube.

Class discords are also a great place to find advice too.
