Keyboard and mouse turning?

Definite pro tip.

I got to ask…how do you all skyride with KB only? Seems like that would be seriously complicated.

Maybe those are the people complaining about how awful skyriding is!

ETA: Yeah. Mouse turning works in three dimensions!

I hate games without mouse movement - usually bad console ports that assume everyone uses a controller.

Anyways - mouse turning in WoW is just more efficient and in most cases, faster to the point keyboard turning will get you killed.

I still have nightmares about my group in ICC where our (up until Sindragosa) best healer could never get out the explosion after she pulled everyone in all because they were a keyboard turner, which made getting past Sindy a major PITA (we only got through by running multiple classes with combat rezzs and just rezzing them over and over).

Ive had console games in the past, but yeah…totally prefer using a mouse with a PC game.

Keyboard turning gets people killed more often than not and hinders minmaxing due to how slow it is. If you wanna improve, hardware is half the battle. Get yourself a good MMO mouse with 12 buttons on the side that you can program to be comfortable for you and you’ll find utilizing the mouse more becomes second nature.

Have you ever played Hogwarts Legacy? The flight controls are a nightmare in that thing compared to either version of flying in WoW. It was unreal. The mouse doesn’t work in three dimensions! There are flight games in it that are basically the same as dragonriding races in WoW and they’re a chore to complete at a fraction of the speed because the controls are so poor.

12 buttons? And an appointment with a carpal tunnel specialist.

He’s gotta be talking about a Razer Naga. I love using my mouse buttons, but 12 thumb buttons seems kind of excessive to me. But I’d not rule out it being great since I haven’t tried it. My mouse has three thumb buttons, two extra index finger buttons and you can nudge the scroll wheel left, right and down for three more effective “buttons” and that’s been enough. But sometimes I look at the Razer Naga and think … maybe?

Oh it’s not bad at all, actually. My thumb hits all of them quite easily.

Nah, Corsair Scimitar. I fell out of love with Razer and more in love with Corsair. More my speed.

This is the mouse I use.

Nice. Thanks.

Mouse turning is faster and more accurate. Also when you keyboard turn you are monopolyzing fingers that should be doing your rotation instead, specially if your mouse only has 2 buttons it means everything is on your keyboard.

And just to make sure, because this is not mentioned and I don’t know your lvl of play, you are not supposed to click (almost) any of your skills. Acceptable exceptions are things like lust so you don’t fat finger it, or long lasting buffs that you usually do once per dungeon or something. Any typical fight action, rotation cooldown or whatever, should have a keybind, and activated with that key, never clicked.

I don’t use a bunch of mouse buttons. Just comfortably have all my ability keybinds on my keyboard and then change direction / move camera with the mouse.

You don’t need to have ability binds on your mouse to encorporate mouse turning, it’s still just faster and more precise than using a keyboard.

The buttons look small and close together. Do you ever go to press, say, button 5 and accidentally press one of the adjacent buttons just because your thumb is so much bigger than the button?

Nah, and it’s adjustable. Like, you can move the keypad for comfort.

Also, HP’s right.

This is correct. I just suggested it because I found myself becoming more comfortable with my mouse over time the more I had to utilize it for multi-purposed functionality. I couldn’t imagine having all of my binds on the keyboard, but that’s just easier for me. Everybody learns differently.

One could make just as much a conscious effort to mouse turn more and adjust as needed for keybinding to make their lives easier and see success.

I’m so used to having additional abilities on my mouse that I find it really awkward to play with a standard mouse – I just haven’t got the extra step to 12 thumb buttons! But even if I had a standard mouse, I’d still mouse turn! I’ve done it a couple times while traveling on business and having only a standard mouse with me.
