Keybinds tips

hi guys been playing a lot of alts lately and tbh i just cant decide on a stable keybind across all alts i keep changing them i just wanna get a good setup that i can use across all alts by the way just started using keybind like bout a month ago so im still new to them any tips and advice. My latest all is a rogue and damn they are so hard to play im sucking so bad anyway thanks in advance

You should learn to keybind + macro, or else you could get overwhelmed by so many buttons at first. There are abilities that you don’t need to bind and others that can go well into a macro to avoid having it taking a bind on your keyboard.

In that regard I’m new too, so you should ask a veteran player that main the class you want to play.

macro you mean making like one ability activates 2 more like in the same time

Yes. Or that it will activate a different ability depending if you’re targeting a friend or foe.

For a start I have my interrupt bound to my mouse wheel as well as the movement ability for my class, both for very fast reactionary purposes

ahh ok sounds helpful tbh i never have gotten into macros but a friend help me make a macro of shadowdance, cold blood, symbols and shadowstrike i use that in a single press spell

Keep key binds the same across Alts.
For example: A stun ability would always be on the same key. A quick movement spell would always be on the same key. Same with abilities that focus multiple targets.

I don’t think you could have binds that do the same thing across all the class specs. C on my Rogue is cheap shot, Button4 (button you use to go back a page in your browser) is Kidney Shot; C is Hammer of Wrath on my paladin but he doesn’t have a second stun, do I not use Button4 on him?

I play every spec for every class though healers less often, you will eventually come up with a system that works for you if you play enough :+1: You’ll just get used to the binds you’ve pressed for years

So a good example would be interrupts. Most specs have an interrupt. Always the same key across Alts. You see where I’m goin?

ahh ok for example i got in all my alts
my stun on c and silence on f my slow is on q and e is my speed spells like that ?

Yep, though I worry you’re not strafing :grimacing:

It helps to have specific keys for specific type of spells. For example across all my toons my interrupts are always on V, stuns on R, personals/defensives on CTRL-1,2,3, fears on X, etc.

i got my movement with wsd i movw with mouse while i strafe with a and d

My setup is as follows. If it’s something you seem to find interesting give it a shot.

Q-W-E-R-T-S-F-G-X-C-V-1-2-3-4-5

That is my first row. I then have the exact same setup for 2 other rows using the Shift modifier and the Ctrl modifier. That’s basically all the keybinds I need. I don’t backpedal. I use A and D to strafe, and auto run / movement is toggled on my mouse.

Keybinds are personal, I can’t really tell you what binds to use, what you find comfortable is kind of up to you. The only big tip we can give you is whatever you decide up to standardize it across your classes.

E is always an interrupt
X is always the spec/class’s movement ability. Additionally Shift + X is also always some sort of secondary speed boost if the spec has it
Shift + Q is always a defensive. So is Shift + D, Shift + V is kind of a backup third defensive/utility type ability (Feign Death, cloak of shadows, Spell Reflect, etc)
SHift + E is always a the main 2-3 minute CD of the spec
Q is always an AoE/Cleave type ability

For me I go 1-5
QET (Y for less important abilities)
FG
ZXCV

Shifts get put on non rotational abilities. Defensives, cooldowns, or less frequently less pressed. Alts tend to be very situation abilities like vanish or a cancelaura for ice block. I don’t use control at all since pet classes can get tied to them, but everyone is different on this kind of stuff. Goes back to it being personal.

I get myself turned around sometimes when I play one class a lot and then go onto the next and try to roll or heroic leap or whatever, but I don’t get myself turned around by saying “Oh shoot what did I assign my AoE ability to on this alt”

Pretty much mine as well, but I also add Y for “sometimes” use and B- H for situational things. Health stones, potions, flare etc. Shift Q is often my mobility key. Shift E being defensive. with SR being my mount. Z always being my interrupt and X being my instant self heals.

ESDF for movement. WR strafing.

The surrounding 14 keys are a hotbar. Use Shift and they become 14 more. Can use CRTL for another set if needed.

I have 30 keybinds and between this and my Naga, my hands never change positions.

thanks everyone also i just bought a gaming mouse with 20 buttons i could maybe bind some spells there right ?

I go with -

QERFT - Main offensive abilities and T is my “Power up” mode, like wings.

12345 - Usually buttons that I don’t have to press too often like Wake of Ashes for Paladins or heals such as Word of Glory/Flash of Light.

Shift + Q - OH CRAP defensive.
Shift + ERFT - Secondary offensive abilities, Shift + T is my secondary power up, like Seraphim.

Shift + 1,2 - Shift + 1 is my interrupt, Shift + 2 is my main utility, such as Blessing of Freedom.

Alt + QERF123 - Utilities.

X - Mount.

This is what has always made sense to me. Keeping keybinds uniform throughout all characters by using the same ones for main single-target, AoE, stun/interrupt, utility, emergency, ect… I personally like binding keys around my index finger. R, T, F, G, V and then Shift + R, T, F, G, V, E, ect… I use the shift, control, and alt keys and it really helps me use a lot of abilities with fast response times.
