Key to Torghast : ADAPT

So I’m sure everyone has been reading how impossible Torghast is and how it is unfairly balanced. In order to clear the Layers, you can’t play it like the rest of the game. I can only speak as a hunter.

You will most likely need to respec your talents, and get used to using abilities you wouldn’t normally use. (Arcane shot? Useless outside, but with the right power it can turn a mob into household objects) Learn to use the ravenous orbs and what abilities they can give you. Always get Phantasma gaining abilities early on as well as HP boosters and heals. Your goal is to survive first, become a God of destruction later.
Those are just a few tips, but ask around, use the discord for your class and find the Anima power combos that break the whole thing. Trust me, it’s out there. Happy Hunting!

Ohhhh! Like Katness from that movie with the guy with the face. It’s even better because you are a hunter.

I really want to play Torghast with my main. When they figure out what they are trying to do with it, I might try it.

No, sorry. It’s much more complicated than just choosing different talents and ‘adapting’. In fact talents are mostly meaningless in torghast. What matters is the anima powers. The anima powers decide everything. Literally nothing else matters when you finish a run.

Some classes have OP anima powers(like hunters) that let them become wrecking trains. Other classes, like shadow priest for example top out at like 15k dps even with good anima powers. I was able to clear all 18 floors yesturday solo as shadow. But it was very, very time consuming and if I didnt get lucky with my Phantasmic infuser giving me 15% base movement speed I would have probably failed.

The final boss had 3 million health. I was only putting about 15k dps when I had power infusion up. It was a tree boss that slowly gets more powerful and faster the longer you fight him. I just barely killed him in my second attempt and it was only because I was able to kite him with the extra movement speed. I had 110k health mind you, but he could get very close to one shotting me if it took too long.

I also have a strong understanding of my class and a good idea of what anima powers are best. But even the best shadow ones pale in comparison to what other classes can do.

i think those ppl tilted and stopped grabbing powers or something.

it was a total joke for me. i ended up with 72++ powers doing 60k++ dps single target and getting healed to full in a single whirlwind (which could trigger automatically from rampage)…

literally felt like cheating.

Granted, I have a tank (voidwalker) and am pretty decently geared, but I am honestly kind of baffled as to how/why so many people are struggling in torghast.

Are they not doing their maw stuff, which allows you to buy upgrades from V’e’nari that make doing toghast a bit easier/more consistent?

Are they trying skip as much as they possibly can and rush through it, thus missing out on anima powers (as well as phantasma) that also leads to anima powers?

Are they pulling like half a floor at a time and then wondering why they are dying?

Are they going in there on fresh 60’s and expecting to just coast through it?

Actually, the Hunter Anima powers aren’t that OP. I still have to CC,feign death, disengage and trap throughout my run.

My last boss had a spam cast for 104k.

I didn’t have good fortune with HP powers so I came in at 70k HP.

There really isn’t alot of room to adapt when you can interrupt 3 out of every 5-6 casts and one cast will hit for more HP than you got.

That’s what I’m starting to think. My Prot warrior can enter TC right now. Is he? Oh dear no, he’d get murdered. That’s because he isn’t ready.

While spec does have something to do with it, you miss the issue that anima powers are completely rng. Many of us are well aware of Anima power combos that are optimal, but it means nothing if you don’t get any of it.

I’ve had occasions where the best combos come in the first couple of floors and I’m set. I’ve also had it where the majority of powers gave me run speed, or mawrat kill abilities that do absolutely nothing. And when you’re playing higher layers, your Phatasma is more scarce so even when you save up, you may not have much to spend.

It’s just too random to tell people to “Adapt”, or play a specific way.

Edit: Meant to reply to OP

Yeah, the RNG is strong here, but when I enter and Secret Spices isn’t the first power I can get I run out and try again. Same if it’s a floor I don’t like.

Gaming the system by resetting until you get a decent 1st power proves that this is RNG more so than skill or any other kind of issue of adaptation

I disagree. Doing a mount run on every single one of your characters isn’t gaming the system, and neither is folding your deck until you get a good hand.

bro… i’ve seen spriest in m+ do between 10-15k single target… you DEF are doing something wrong with your class.

I have to call a bit of BS on the whole adapt thing. I went through everything, got all my anima powers and entered the final fight with 39,000 health… I had a few 15% health increases but nothing else dropped. I also had the healing, (high chance, I think it was up to 15%, it was more than enough for my voidwalker) My voidwalker had MORE than enough health. I also had 5 infernals on him with 100% extra time doing 150% damage, damage was not an issue. What was an issue was him killing me in 2 shots with his aura, shell, whatever attack. It is a garbage encounter that really sucked the life out of the game for me. I spent 2 hours getting to that point, took my time, went through everything, then I had absolutely no chance to kill that final boss because I did not get the health increases I needed to last through his basic attack. Garbage.

I see this posted from my alt, don’t even remember this one. My character is a Warlock, IL 199.

Not sure what a mount run on every single char has to do with my comment…

If this was poker, or another RNG based card game against another actual player, I’d agree there’s skill involved, because part of that skill is knowing how to counter said player.

This, is not that. You’re relying entirely on RNG to give you the necessary tool to progress. There is no set pattern or obstacle to overcome. You get a good combo of skills, and floor design, you will succeed. You get bad ones, and you’re likely screwed. There is no adaption to this RNG design.

man, 39k is not nearly enough.

Playing on my assassination rogue whether I win or lose is completely dictated by anima power rng. There is no outplaying the final boss. I either get lucky or I don’t and wasted up to an hour. That’s just bad game design.

I guess we will have to agree to disagree. Maybe because I’ve been so successful in my runs I am a bit biased. I’ve cleared Layer 1 and 2 and will be doing 3 tonight. One of my guildies already did all 8 layers because he is a madman

Yeah foreal, made the mistake of grabbing the anima power that boosts my damage and heals but each floor it eats 5% of my health.

Killed layer 18s boss with 28k hp because I accounted for my squishiness by over stacking defenses that support my damage taken reduction CDs so I could survive the inevitable one shots that could be done to me.

Doing over 400k dps also helped kek.
