Key randomization is broken

I haven’t commented about this because I thought that I was just unlucky but after reading a reddit post that is currently trending I think that there is something wrong with the radomizer that selects new keys once you time. I, personally, have finished around 50 keys at this point and of those keys the majority have been either Necrotic Wake, Mists, or Siege of Boralus. I thought I was just losing the RNG game but the reddit thread below is full of people experiencing the same thing. While I don’t mind doing these dungeons from time to time it is truly miserable to be pushed into them constantly and its ruining the season for me. I want to play the new dungeons but I get them so rarely that I mostly spend time in old content and its a real shame. I hope the devs can take a look and change something because if this was intended, it was a bad decision for player experience and its causing a lot of frustration.

I feel like the reason they do it, and I am not apologizing or making excuses, is because they took all this time to add old stuff into new content, they want to “steer” people into having to use it.

I am soooo sick of Necrotic Wake.

I second always getting Siege. Might just be response bias though, but we’ll see.

I was sick of it in SL, I’m sick of it now.

To be blunt I feel like we should be able to pick and choose what keys we do and don’t do at this point. Like once you unlock the relative key level you simply just go to the key dungeon that you want to do. Then do it, no more random B.S. of having to roll the key you want or need, given they tend to be the same 4-5 keys each time.

I get that the intention is to keep people from degening the same key over and over again, yet as it stands people already do that. So I don’t see the harm in giving us more agency over the runs we do honestly. Given this season has been super frustrating for keys, especially when it comes to grim’batol as its super duper hard to get into groups for it. As it drops so many BiS trinkets, similar to how echo is as well.

I agree. I feel like if you can filter out which dungeons you run, you can also have a “loot setting” where your spec loot option is and choose which keys you would prefer.

Keystones should really just be like a “+8 keystone” letting you go into whichever dungeon and slot it in. From there if a dungeon isn’t getting played they need to look at why people avoid it. Score-wise we need all the dungeons anyway.

I’m bumping this to the top, I am considering quitting this season because of the lack of Key diversity, I don’t want to play the same 3 dungeons on repeat for 6 months.

Is there no longer an NPC at the end of mythics that lets you change your key like there was in S4?

That should be a constant in my opinion.

There is but it’s also random, and has a tendency to reroll your key to the same keys you’ve already been getting.

Well that’s better than nothing.

Overall I agree with the sentiment but I think allowing this choice would make some dungeons almost impossible to find.

People would get their one 7 or 10 in for rating and just always avoid them from then on.

THere is but say you have a +8 key - if you don’t run with a team that means you need to be invited to a pug, beat said key in time, and then exchange that key. And even then its highly likely it will be one of the three that EVERYONE is getting. This option doesn’t really exist for high keys. The fact that 90% of my keys are 3 dungeons, and there is data that those 3 dungeons are being given out more often, leads to a revolving door of content. It is not fun and I want out of the maze blizzard has made for us. Big L.

Yeah if there is some unseen weight being given to certain keys that needs to be fixed asap.

It wouldn’t surprise me at all if it were the case either. Blizzard knows which of those dungeons are going to be avoided. They could easily weigh the RNG towards them to attempt to equalize participation numbers.

Yeah, well, choose better dungeons then. They chose unpopular dungeons and then are forcing people to run them. These are really puzzling decisions for a company that wants people to play their game.

Preaching to the choir on this one. I’d be running keys all day if S1’s rotation wasn’t the worst we’ve ever seen.

Literally half of my guild has a necrotic wake key right now, the group we run in all 5 of us have necrotic wake keys. Its kind of ridiculous.

Yeah, if it wasn’t for my vault I wouldn’t be running keys this week, its miserable.

Yep. Just run Mists+9 only, all week for 12 gilded crests a pop. No need to sweat other crappy dungeons.

I really don’t see a valid reason for forced randomization of keys.

We should be able to run whatever we want once we unlock a key level by timing it.

If people are only doing certain dungeons because of this? Then, make other dungeons more attractive run-wise and loot-wise.
