Keeping up BoS

Hi All,

New to DK Frost and just getting back into WoW. I boosted my free 120 to Frost DK (388 ilvl), I’m following this rotation but I literally can’t keep up Sindragosa longer than 10-15 secs. Is it the gear or is there something about the rotation that is not correct?

Obliterate x 3 (Tap HB if Proc)
Empower Run
Pillar
Breath
Obliterate (less than 30 RP)
Remorseless Winter on CD

Obliterate x 3 (Tap HB if Proc)
Empower Rune
Pillar + Breath (macro these together)
Remorseless winter
Rime proc / Obliterate (less than 75 RP)
Obliterate > rime proc (35 or less RP)

After breath it goes into normal rotation.

Do you have lucid dreams minor?
It makes a big difference.

How could a end-game trait that just came out (I think) with 8.3 impact such a mainstream build?

Essences came out in 8.2

We had the worst downtime in game prior to 8.2

They were the dark times…

You should definitely build more than just 60 Runic at the start from the x3 Obliterates. 80+ is more ideal (at least one more Obliterate, plus potential Frost Fever and Runic Attenuation procs). This should then put you in a position where you have 2 Runes just about coming off CD when you pop BoS. You’ll generate 2 Runes when you use BoS, and 1 Rune when you use Empower Rune Weapon, so waiting for 3 or more would over-cap.

I would personally say that Empower Rune Weapon should be popped after you start BoS/PoF. BoS will still deal damage through the GCD used to active ERW, but in the reverse you waste the GCD that could be putting out damage by activating BoS/PoF.

It came out in 8.2. When it came out doesn’t really affect the strength of the trait. It’s a huge resource generation for us. And since BoS is all about managing the inevitable drain of resources, it made an enormous impact on the already prevalent playstyle.

Darn OK, I just can’t get passed the fact I only keep it up for like 10 seconds. I guess I need to go to icecap build until I get that trait.

I’d suggest checking out biceps guide on wowhead.

It’s backed up by logs and simc.
He goes over the opener.

thanks looking now, do you ever use frost strike?

During breath no as it costs RP.

His guide doesn’t cover either of those two discrepancies, but thanks. I respect Biceps, but I do disagree with those two points on the opener.

It does in the opener tab under rotation.

You can also look at Warcraft logs.
Go to top parses > select casts and timelines.

You will see everyone pretty much doing the same exact opener with BOS.

I did say that it didn’t cover the discrepancies, not that it didn’t list an opener order. I’m aware that it lists that order, and that that is conventional wisdom as a result of the guide itself. “Everyone is doing it” does not inherently mean that something correct.

Could you link a top parse with your better method?
Possibly one of your own? Mythic Shad is probably the most patchwork fight this tier.

If not I suggest you head over to the DK discord to help better inform everyone this week to help them get those top logs for this reset. If all the top DK’s are doing something wrong you should let them know.

So I’m not entirely sure if we have properly investigated the delaying of ERW recently. I’ve definitely done it before but might’ve been before the 8.2 changes, can’t remember. I don’t think it matters that much when it’s done. You might run into being GCD-capped later on in your breath, thus not allowing you to cast it. Essentially, if you use ERW and don’t cap on resources, you’ve used it to its full extent. Usually you can do that by using it early and you’re therefore fine.

I feel like this is still relevant and can shed some insight into the minmax that can go into breath. Feel free to have a look at the “BoS for sale” bit as well, it’s quite funny.
