Keeping target esp in AoE

Hey all,
This may most likely just be a case of being out of practice/being bad, but I took a break from the game pretty much all of shadowlands (got lvl cap and just poofed). Since coming back I’m noticing whenever I yoink a group or run a dungeon or just anything with AoE focus, I keep losing a ton of damage cause I’m either not getting a target (I tend to avoid tab cause it likes to grab something across the room), or I’ll target something in the death ball behind me.

Is there a trick, or macro, or new setting to automatically turn/target something nearby that I might be missing? Or do I just need to get gud again? Thanks!

Edit dunno if it matters but I roll Fury. I’m also a bit on the old side, slightly blind on one eye, and have two kids and a wife so I’m stupid casual these days.

Tab target is still pretty finnicky, but what I used to do, and sometimes still do depending on mob density/small corridors, is Charge in and rotate my camera so only the mobs we are fighting are on screen. It doesnt always work, but it helped me when i was getting used to warrior.

I have not tried it myself, but there is this new option called Action Targeting that may help if you are having issues with tab targeting.

There is no auto-turning, so you will need to just step back a little and make sure everything is in front of you.

In case you do not have hostile nameplates turned on, you should!

Action targeting can help with this a lot. It means that the game will auto target anything in front of you. If you tab you can control what you target but with that setting on if it will only target enemies that fall in that auto target setting. It will never supersede your targeting, but when your target dies it will auto swap to a new one.

So for example if you have three enemies, two in front of you and one far behind the others. Instead of cycling between all three and getting stuck targeting the one far away it will only cycle between the two in front of you. I haven’t figured out all the nuance of it, it is a new setting, but it has been nice for mass AoE pulls and just keeping up the momentum of your rotation during a fight.

I use it, it’s great for melee in a big pack where you don’t care what you hit as long as you’re hitting something and cleaving to others. Can be a nuisance if you were expecting to be on the big mob but keep getting its adds. Pressing the tab key should lock in the target, but with the pack moving and churning it’s hard to keep on the big mob.

Hey all! Thanks a ton for the advice. With getting back into the swing of things, making sure I keep my cam focused on the group in front of me, and trying action targeting, I’ve had better success!

This has been a problem of mine for awhile now. Whenever I drop an AOE like ravager. It drops my target. Its not always, but random. Its very hard to pinpoint to what is causing the drop. Yes I have sticky on. Its not just while I’m tanking its the same as dropping a blizzard or ring of peace.
