Kaz's Character Building Questionnaire!

Let’s have some fun, WrA. I’m going to toss out some simple questions pertaining to your character(s), and you, well, you can answer them! If you want!

Maybe they’ll help you to consider something about your character you haven’t before. Maybe they’ll just encourage you to do some writing! Both are good!

  1. What is your character’s favorite food?
  2. What is your character’s least favorite food?
  3. What is your character’s favorite season, and why?
  4. Does your character dream? What do they dream about?
  5. What is your character’s least favorite memory?
  6. What shops/institutions does your character patronize, if any?
  7. If you had to pick an alignment for your character, what would it be?
  8. How does your character feel about murlocs?

Favorite Food: Fresh Bread, growing up impoverished and at the mercy of donations all the bread she had in the early years was day old, which wasn’t bad really but… not fresh.

Least Favorite Food: Soups. What are they trying to be? Food? A liquid? Make a choice.

Favorite Season: Spring. That season when people splurge and buy stupid things while they do mating dances around each other dressing like peacocks. It’s good for the economy AND fun to watch the successes and failures.

Karma doesn’t dream at night. She sleeps like a log. At the very least it is accurate to say she doesn’t remember her dreams. As of aspirations she dreams of being rich.

Her least favorite memory is being younger and falling into a rather smelly stagnant part of the canal because of LARGE DRAGON bombing Stormwind. She stayed there for hours before it was safe to come out and sometimes when she walks near that particular area she remembers how bad it smelled.

Karma is super frugal. She patronizes street stalls, fresh open markets, and thrift stores.

Lawful Evil. If she can get away with it she will probably try it. She doesn’t have a whole lot of compassion toward her fellow man and would much rather their belongings be hers. She doesn’t wish death on anyway but certainly wouldn’t reach a hand out either.

She doesn’t feel anything about murlocs, other than continual amazement at the crap they build their nests around.

Being undead, and kind of a stoic personality, Sara hasn’t bothered eating much of late. But when she was alive, she REALLY enjoyed roast pumpkin.

Anything fried. Too greasy.

She really likes winter. It’s a Death Knight thing in part, but also the hot Orgrimmar sun burns her skin less.

She doesn’t sleep, so not conventionally. But she daydreams, shall we say. She has a “dream” to see the entire Kingdom of Lordaeron reunited under Forsaken rule, and to see her people leave peaceful and happy lives, with no need for the Blight or anything that makes them a darker folk. She just wants things to go back to the way they were when she was alive, which will of course never happen. But it’s a dream.

Her mother’s death, the day Arthas killed Terenas. She was 13 at the time. It was her first encounter with the undead, and it still shapes her attitudes towards non-free-willed undead, who she sees as the biggest evil in the world.

Funnily enough, because of her somewhat puritanical lifestyle, and a lack of any need to eat or drink, Sarestha’s kind of rich because she earns money through odd jobs and doesn’t actually spend it much. The most money she spent was at an Ebon Blade blacksmith, to make her a red-themed Death Knight set, that she isn’t wearing much at the moment. That said, she made an alcoholic friend a bit under a year ago, and somehow they’ve become besties. So Sarestha spends some of her money buying troll liquor for her friend. xD

Ooh, that’s a hard one. I’m not an expert at alignments, so correct me if I reason this through entirely wrong… But I’d have to say lawful neutral, with maybe some good leaning. She’s always been the type of person to blindly and fanatically follow leaders who she thinks represents her ideals. She’s well-intentioned, and doesn’t intend to harm anyone, but there was a time when if her leader ordered her to do something, she’d do it, and justify why afterwards. She actively participated in the Burning of Teldrassil, and even tried encouraging it in the streets. Because she was devoted to Sylvanas. It’s only now that Sylvanas has betrayed the free-will aspect that Sara believes is the right of ALL Forsaken, that Sarestha’s dropped that fanaticism, and turned perhaps more neutral good in her outlook - just trying to do what she can to keep her people safe.

If it mrrgls, kill it.

Probably talbuk, at this point. I imagine that was sort of all she ate for decades, when she lived on Draenor.

Summer, I think. Everything else is too cold for her liking.

I basically use dreams as an alternative to Farsight before Ursuola actually gets Farsight. It usually manifests as accidental astral projection; she finds herself in faraway places and faraway times, but doesn’t really have the capacity to parse what she’s seeing.

Funnily enough, because of this and some circumstances involving my guildmates, FFXIV!Ursuola and WoW!Ursuola are canon for each other.

My RP is weird.

Watching everyone she knew and loved get murdered, obviously, but honorable mention goes to:

  • That time where she arguably got a friend killed during her suicide-by-Iron-Horde attempt,
  • That time she found the grave of her best friend’s child desecrated, and
  • Having to kill and then resurrect her guild leader to live through her torture in an Alliance prison.

Thanks to the aforementioned best friend, Ursuola feels that the healthiest indulgence she has is intense expressions of visible femininity. I imagine she’s basically singlehandedly funded every dress shop, jewelry store, and hairdresser in Stormwind.

Probably True Neutral? But that doesn’t feel right to me, and doesn’t fit with my perception of what True Neutral “should” be.

She’s definitely Mardu, though, with an emphasis on red. I think MtG’s color identity is a way more useful way to think about alignment than D&D’s, anyway, at least for things that aren’t D&D.

They’re basically vermin, but some weird person breeds ones that look like famous people once a year. That’s pretty creepy.

Man, I love reading this stuff. Keep it coming, WrA!

Funny that you mention MtG, because “what MtG color alignment would your character be” is going to be on the next questionnaire!

(I have a bunch of RP character/event development threads planned out that I’ll be posting over the next few weeks).

1.) Favorite food? Jian’s mother used to make “the best shrimp dumplings on the isle”, mixed with bits of other crustaceans and some spices that grew naturally. He has yet to find a suitable substitute.

2.) Least favorite, hands down, would be the majority of the food from AU Draenor. Specifically, the rations that were given out to start were mostly liberated from the Iron Horde until the supply lines were actually established, and Jian found that eating whatever that garbage was made him feel terrible. As such, if he espies a AU Mag’har working in the kitchen of any establishment, he leaves immediately.

3.) Favorite season would technically not be a normal season, but the wet season that Kalimdor experiences (or at least, I headcannon to assume the plains areas and sometimes Durotar get) is his favorite time. The cool mud feels good between his toes, and there’s no better feeling than standing in the first fresh rain and letting it run through your fur. The smell of new foliage also helps.

4.) Sure he does; mostly of food though. He does occasionally have a few nightmares, but those are few and far between enough for him to regard them as lessons.

5.) It would have to be the Wrathgate event. Seeing those events is usually one of the re-occurring nightmares that can plague him (huehuehuehue). Burning of Teldressil would be a close second, except there hasn’t really been a slow-down period for him to think about it yet.

6.) Noodle carts/mom and pop diners. He may be skinnier than the average male pandaren, but it’s not from a lack of trying. He enjoys sampling new food everywhere he goes.

7.) Probably chaotic good? I’m not very good at alignments.

8.) Annoying in large numbers. And they’re always in large numbers.

The Murloc Question now has me envisioning a Doom Guy/Goblin Slayer style character who only kills murlocs. 10/10 best character development

Just gonna post on Isalenna here instead of Ellivara because there’s really no point in using her anymore, lol.

Cake. Any kind of cake. Give.

Anything not cake.

On a more serious note, I imagine she’s not a fan of Goblin ‘cuisine’. Anything especially greasy or particularly unpleasant would make her actually sick.

Spring. Quel’thalas being a land of eternal warmth and sun kind of spoiled her - she hates any weather that isn’t pleasantly warm and sunny.

I’d imagine she has more nightmares than dreams these days, considering her nature, but if she were to have more pleasant dreams? Old friends and simpler times, back when she was still an apprentice mage, just having been freed from her aunt’s grip. She didn’t have to worry about war, about politics, about anything like that back then. Her biggest concerns were just studying and dealing with her boss asking if she was pregnant because she put on weight, lol. (That actually happened in an RP. Isa was not happy.)

Originally, I’d have said Lawful Good. She started out afraid of anything like the Fel, of the Void, of the Shadows, but her time with a certain void-based friend of hers eventually relaxed her. Now that she’s a practicing demonologist, I’d say she tends towards more Chaotic Good at worst, Neutral Good at best, depending on the day. She still follows the law, but she’s more willing to bend things and do things she really probably shouldn’t be doing if it means doing the right thing.

Loathsome little fish-people. Eugh.

Favourite food: Meatloaf. Not only is it delicious and hearty but there’s this place in Dalaran that puts bacon in theirs and it’s just the best thing ever.

Least favourite food: Water. At least throw some leaves or a wedge of fruit in there. Some of her aversion to water comes from travelling to places where it’s barely potable but she’s also a bit spoiled. She likes her fancy drinks.

Favourite season: Spring. Just like sunlight always comes to chase away the darkness, spring always comes to breathe new life into a cold and dead world.

Dreaming: Kait would prefer that she didn’t because her dreams are mostly nightmares. Sometimes they’re mild and she’s simply caught in a battle that never ends but she dreams about her parents sometimes. They’ve crawled out of their graves to tell her how much of a disappointment and failure she is.

Least favourite memory: Kait’s family took part in the Exodus of Stormwind. She has scattered memories of the time, as she was little more than a child, but she remembers that horrible, horrible boat ride.

Shops & Institutions: Kait can be seen fairly frequently at the various auction houses around Azeroth. She loves collecting things and can easily be parted from her coin. You can also usually find her poking around the smithy, where she might be having her armour repaired or talking shop with the proprietor.

Alignment: Neutral Good. She follows her heart & her conscience. For example, most people remember Tirion as the Ashbringer. Kait remembers Tirion as the ‘traitor’-- and that’s the kind of paladin she strives to be.

Murlocs: The tiny ones are absolutely adorable. Too bad they grow up. But as long as they mind their own business and don’t start attacking &/or eating people, she’s not really bothered by them.

  1. What is your character’s favorite food?
Chocolate! Altielle has discovered in the last year that she has a sweet tooth.
  2. What is your character’s least favorite food?
Meat in any form disgusts her. It’s probably part of the reason she’s such a twig. She refuses to eat enough protein!
  3. What is your character’s favorite season, and why?
Fall. Altielle loves warm colors, having been deprived of it in Suramar for all her life. She likes to see trees that are orange and red.
  4. Does your character dream? What do they dream about?
Probably not great stuff. Fel magic really isn’t good for the body, and I can assume it reacts in uncomfortable ways to warn her of it. Lots of nightmares about botched rituals, demons eating her, and blowing up.
  5. What is your character’s least favorite memory?
The day the Nighthold was raided. She had to face down many people she knew, and in the end she even lost. The consequences of her choosing the wrong side haunt her to this day.
  6. What shops/institutions does your character patronize, if any?
Altielle spends a lot of money on reagents for her spells and frequents the Cleft of Shadow’s shops for shadier stuff. She is known, however, to go to fancy tailor shops for expensive clothes.
  7. If you had to pick an alignment for your character, what would it be?
When I first made Altielle, she was lawful evil. Now she’s moved more into the range of lawful neutral. She’s developed a conscience that works on her, but she is not a stranger to ignoring it.
  8. How does your character feel about murlocs?
Slimy, brainless fish with legs. They’re foul and should be exterminated!

  • What is your character’s favorite season, and why? She likes all of them.

  • Does your character dream? What do they dream about? They’re mostly nightmares that she doesn’t remember when she wakes up, but they’re rooted in things that happened in her childhood.

  • What is your character’s least favorite memory? Probably that time when she lost her mind and was plotting to kill Sylvanas back in…Cata? I think it was Cata.

  • What shops/institutions does your character patronize, if any? She used to live in an inn in Shattrath. She didn’t pay her rent on time. Ever. Other than that, whatever vendor is closest.

  • If you had to pick an alignment for your character, what would it be? Chaotic Lawful

  • How does your character feel about murlocs? Yuck. Step on them already.

  1. Is bourbon considered a food? No? I guess fire-roasted sausages then…at least, that’s what she eats most often. Shay’s not a big food person. She enjoys cooking it for other people, but doesn’t care much about eating.

  2. Least favorite food is probably anything with a super strong taste. Especially sweets.

  3. Shay’s favorite season is Fall. She enjoys the harvest at her vineyard during the Fall, and the cooler weather.

  4. Shay mostly has nightmares about her past. /edgy

  5. Shay’s least favorite memory would most likely be…either her husband or her daughter’s death. Might be a tie.

  6. Shay patronizes a lot of bars. She used to spend a lot of time in the Undercity apothecary but well…now she can’t.

  7. She’d probably be chaotic good.

  8. Shay thinks murlocs are very cute. One of her friends has a small one that enjoys riding her shoulder into battle.

Atos’s favorite food would be Seasoned Pheasant Breast, stuffed with cheese and grilled.

His least favorite would fall under the broad category of “Anything Zat’ai brings to the post-production parties”.

Atos prefers Autumn more than any season, as most of the trees of the Eastern Kingdoms (at least the non blighted region) will begin to take colors similar to those in Eversong. The cooler, crisp air is an added bonus, and three of his favorite holidays take place in Autumn.

Atos tends to only dream about things that stress him out. So, really, they’re nightmares, but productive ones. Usually, when there’s a deadline on something, or he has writers’ block, he will have a nightmare about whatever it is and try to overcome it. If he overcomes it in his dreams, however, it’s usually a sign he’s going to have a burst of energy to tackle his problems the following morning, much to his wife’s surprise as those are days when he actually wakes up long, long before anyone at the estate.

His least favorite memory is of his controlling and violent father. He does not share any memories associating with the man, not with just anyone, but let’s just say he had a pretty rough childhood.

Atos once frequented the Skypetal Teahouse religiously, as it was an establishment he’d assisted towards getting off the ground. He misses it deeply now that it’s gone. He never did get the recipe for their Jade Chamomile tea. Aside from them, he frequents the Brightmoon faire and Darkmoon Faire both. The Darkmoon Faire for the food and rides, and the Brightmoon for their entertaining performances of course.

If Atos had an alignment, he’d probably be the most neutral of neutrals. He serves (only recently) in the Silvermoon Guard out of duty to his homeland, his political leanings tending to not extend terribly far from Quel’thelas’s concerns. While he has motivations for not trusting the Alliance and clearly doesn’t want them to win the war, he only holds personal umbrage with one among their ranks. The rest is just politics that will work themselves out one way or the other, with or without him. He just wants to better his craft, and entertain the masses.

And as for murlocs…dreadful pests. They infest beaches on a whim, and getting them to clear out is like driving ants from a picnic - it doesn’t matter how many times you shake the blanket, they’ll keep coming back until the last crumb is snatched from those perfectly good cucumber and tomato sandwiches!

  1. Venison Jerky, alternatively rice balls wrapped in mushan loins.

  2. Anything containing soy; though Zhihao still enjoys soy.

  3. Most cold weather reminds her of home, so Winter would be most likely. Spring is a close second due to the often vibrant flora in many places

  4. There are two common dreams that Zhihao tends to have; recollections of the night of her clan’s decimation and wet dreams about having a harem of lusty Goblin women. Occasionally she may also have a particularly weird dream here and there; commonly involving seemingly mundane moments that quickly and briefly become nonsensically bizarre.

  5. That would most likely be the aforementioned decimation of her clan, the Winterclaws; a rather bloody battle defending their home from an army of Mogu, resulting in their mutual demise. Zhihao was one of few survivors.

Two other contenders include seeing her older sister drinking felblood or having to later kill her sister.

  1. In general Zhihao tends to troll around food vendors. Being frequently poor she often has to seek out scraps, like a raccoon. Her clan’s training ensures that she is mostly self sufficient. She also tends to seek out…specialty literature…and the occasional erotic painting.

  2. Most likely Neutral Good. Her morals are defined but loose enough that things general against the law wouldn’t likely bother her. Given her profession I suppose that much at least is to be expected.

  3. Zhihao has yet to see a Murloc in person. Based on popular perceptions she is likely to consider herself lucky to have encountered one. She’s otherwise indifferent; they sound weird but that’s about it.

Isalenna here - I see I forgot some stuff for her, so I’ll add that onto this post after I work on Eraki a bit!

Eraki grew up being largely used to eating whatever was available and easily cooked - charred meat, rarely spiced, and so on. Since coming to Azeroth, however, she has found she has a fondness for Goblin food - burgers, fried food, the greasier and nastier looking the better. Overwhelm her with -all the flavor-.

In turn, she doesn’t like eating anything without flavor anymore unless she absolutely has to. She still will if she does, but… she might grumble about it.

She hasn’t experienced it yet - but she’s going to love snow and winter. She grew up inside a mountain in Gorgrond - the world was a hateful place bent on killing you. Being in a world where things can be enjoyed without worrying if they’re going to try and turn around and eat you is a relieving change for her.

Her dreams, these days, are unsurprisingly of Draenor. As much as she enjoys Azeroth… it’s not her home. Her home is Draenor, a world she’ll probably never see again.

When she first received word of the war between the Draenei and the Orcs starting again, the former guided by their Light Mother and Yrel. She’s convinced the Draenei didn’t have a choice in what happened - that the Light forced them to become what they are. Every Draenei she had ever encountered before then had been pleasant enough, if understandably wary.

Burger joints, engineering workshops, gun stores. Places like that.

Lawful Good, I’d say.

She hasn’t seen one yet. Her first instinct might be to try and hug it, if it doesn’t attack her first. We shall see.

Edit – Now for Isalenna!

Similar to Eraki, she dreams of home. She talks a big game about hating Quel’thalas, but the loss of her home has left her heart-broken, even if she doesn’t get along with her people very well.

Any that involve her aunt, the woman who raised her. She grew up being abused by the woman and it’s not an experience she’s bound to forget any time soon.

Book shops, of the magical or mundane variety, bakeries, et cetera.

  1. What is your character’s favorite food?
Jacunda nigiri, and scallion kimchi (with a glass of Kaldorei ginger wine).

  2. What is your character’s least favorite food?
Rations. Plain bread. Anything bland. As a fan of Kaldorei and Pandaren cuisine, he only enjoys food with a certain degree of flair or finery.

  3. What is your character’s favorite season, and why?
Spring. It’s when Nature wakes up from its winter nap, and Life flourishes, filled with new hope. And green is his favorite color.

  4. Does your character dream? What do they dream about?
He dreams conventionally. Random dreams, nightmares, etc. He also enters the Emerald Dream, for assorted druidic purposes.

Being a strong Druid of the Moon, Elune sometimes tries to clue him in on really bad things that have yet to happen, through dreams. He recently had a whole side arc where, after the Legion’s defeat, he had a recurring nightmare of a World Tree on fire, to the point he’d wake up coughing and choking on the smoke and ash. Figuring the Firelands were going to make another move on Nordrassil, he worked with Shaman and other Druids to look into the matter, only to realize during the War of Thorns that he was very, very wrong.

  1. What is your character’s least favorite memory?
Probably a toss up between Teldrassil, and the Sundering.

  2. What shops/institutions does your character patronize, if any?
Book shops, mostly. Occassionally he’ll pop into a pet shop, or shop specializing in live plants, looking for exotic specimens to document (and save, as he believes it).

  3. If you had to pick an alignment for your character, what would it be?
Chaotic good. The Goddess (and by extension, the High Priestess) is the only real authority he has. It’s partially why the Cenarion Circle prefers to use him in a more freelance capacity, then officially endorse his whims.

  4. How does your character feel about murlocs?
Fascinating little creatures. People maybe kill more of them than they ought to.

What is your character’s favorite food?
Talbuk jerky! Reminds me of home and is always good for long journeys.

What is your character’s least favorite food?
I struggle with eating sweets. Just can’t handle them.

What is your character’s favorite season, and why?
Summer! The dry crisp air is something I enjoy quite a bit. But the occasional lightning storm is a great lullaby to sleep to as well…even if the humidity ruins my hair.

Does your character dream? What do they dream about?
I have…unpleasant dreams. I don’t really enjoy talking about it.

What is your character’s least favorite memory?
…I don’t really have to answer this…do I?

What shops/institutions does your character patronize, if any?
Azerothian Jewelcrafters are…awful. When in need of a new gem, I will always go to the superior craftsmen at the Exodar. Depending on urgency, I’ll seek out a fellow Draenei for a rush order. Even in a rush we Draenei supply outstanding gem products.

If you had to pick an alignment for your character, what would it be?
As a mercenary, I would probably align myself as Chaotic Neutral.

How does your character feel about murlocs?
They do a good job of filtering out those that are meant to defend the realm and those that should stick to working on farms.

  1. Breaking Bones and the screams they produce.

Sinothyr likens the Death Knight vice for sadism to the dietary needs of the living. As such the various methods of causing pain and suffering as well as the various expressions of those are often compared to various dishes other foodstuffs, among other things.

  1. One of Sinothyr’s least favorite things in general is death without struggle. She revels in a challenging fight and behavior expressed in times of physical stress (rhyme not intended). Anything quick or quiet is unlikely to be satiable.

  2. The seasons are largely irrelevant. In life however she rather enjoyed autumn; mainly because the weather of that time makes outdoor smithing the most tolerable, but also due to the novelty of having its namesake as part of her actual surname.

  3. As the closest thing she has to sleep is torpor, itself a little more akin to meditation in my interpretation, dreams are but a memory now.

Speaking of memories…

  1. There are plenty of contenders. Most of them involve a priestess by the name of Lamastre Skyfire, Sinothyr’s fencing instructor and something of a surrogate mother. Another may be the time she killed her love interest and turned her into a banshee while under the Lich King’s thrall. That one is one she is persistently reminded of, likely worsening its overall impact.

  2. When she can find them Sinothyr may buy from book vendors. Not having to sleep and lacking a sex drive gives one a lot of free time to read. She also tends to trade furs and meat. Though rare she may sometimes shop for blacksmithing equipment, though more often than not most adequate items are already at her disposal within the Ebon Blade’s holdings; prompting her to visit the Shadow Vault or Acherus when needed.

  3. I am locked between three; Neutral Good, True Neutral and Chaotic Neutral. In the past Sinothyr was a bit more morally upstanding but her morality has waned in recent years. She is ultimately selfish and is likely to do what she can to get wants. A recent example of this includes creating and planting an non-sanctioned vampiric runeblade as insurance in her efforts to recruit the aforementioned Lamastre into the Ebon Blade. This behavior is somewhat tempered however; in part by her loyalty to the Ebon Blade and the fact that her wants are often simple and small. Few things she’s done are things that I’d call outright evil; besides the spirit subjugation…and the Feral Worgen mistreatment…and the lust murders in life.

  4. Murlocs a paradoxically both interesting and boring. They make for an quirky if uninspired meal but there are some things about them that intrigue Sinothyr, such as their sheer numbers and their language. The tadpoles are also cute.

  1. What is your character’s favorite food?

Something that would be a proper Kun-Lai dish. So a beer marinaded Mushan Steak grilled medium rare with the sides of squash and rice.

  1. What is your character’s least favorite food?

Iron Horde military rations. Xins took part in the vanguard that initially attacked Draenor to do his part and did not reach the bridge in time before it was destroyed (and had to run to Frostfire on foot while foraging in an alien world and dodging patrols). As he says, it takes expertise to make rations worse than what ogres eat.

  1. What is your character’s favorite season, and why?

Xin used to like Winter… -used- to. After his teacher at the temple demonstrated your training does not care for the season, fall became his favorite season.

  1. Does your character dream? What do they dream about?

Xins cant remember the last time he had a nice dream. Most he has (if any) are very forgettable. Nightmares… not so much.

  1. What is your character’s least favorite memory?

For things he took part in, the Disasterous event at the Broken Shore. Multiple of his friends were killed, including his good friend in the Tushui. The fact the battle was a loss and everyone was forced to retreat and the fact he -barely- made it to the boats only made it worse and left him feeling like utter fecal matter because there was the legitimate dread so many of his friends just died in vain. The destruction of the Peak of Serenity is a close second.

  1. What shops/institutions does your character patronize, if any?

Xins usually frequents the taverns so he can socialize and relax with other people. He doesn’t actually buy drinks for himself though since years of being a Brewmaster has left firewater underwhelming.

  1. If you had to pick an alignment for your character, what would it be?

More than likely, Neutral Good. Xins very much obeys the laws and does his part to aid the horde… but you know, that non-malcious member of the Alliance just happened to outrun him, not he selectively forgot how to Chi Torpedo. Or he conviently makes sure any boys in blue he captures and turned over to the Sindorei, Tauren or Houjin, conviently those not the Goblins or Forsaken.

  1. How does your character feel about murlocs?

squints suspiciously at the Naga servants he remembers from the Broken Isles
