In the latest TWW patch, Karokta has become tameable. Karokta is a rare in the Zaralek Caverns that drops a mount at a very low chance, and a battle pet.
Rares that drop collectibles that are still actively being farmed should NEVER become tameable. If hunters want that skin, add a new NPC with it. Don’t touch mount rares.
We had this issue with Soundless / Silent Glider in BFA where we would form entire raid groups to tag the rare, only for a hunter to tame it.
“But taunt/ripping aggro breaks the tame!” Yeah it should but it often doesn’t.
This resulted in hunters griefing rares by taming them infront of multiple raid groups waiting to tag, and hunters practically getting banned from mount farming groups with tameable rares.
We saw how poorly this went for Soundless, PLEASE revert this change to Karokta and add a new NPC with Karokta’s model. And don’t just add a new NPC and leave Karokta tameable because some hunters want the “special named” rares specifically and will still tame Karokta.
No, it does literally every time. You just have to taunt at any point in their 6 second cast. And if they’re there “griefing” an entire raid, then surely there are two people with a taunt (or other people with their own growling pets) to keep it locked down indefinitely.
Yeah, I’m gonna leave my hunter in ZC for the time being unless he’s needed elsewhere, and I’ll come back to him later on tonight when there’s not as many people around.
I shall tame this beast for all the times I have been griefed by people when trying to tame a rare hunter pet even when all the rare dropped was Crystalline Tear of Loyalty I will never forgive people for killing Biryuk when I was taming him.
I remember trying to tame Huolon when that was first possible. Me and a group of desperate, angry hunters used the Censer of Eternal Agony camped the spawn point and killed all who opposed after it was killed a few times in front of us. None of us got the tame but a great amount of Hunter justice was dealt that day.
Something that often goes unsaid in this type of thread is that a hunter only has to tame a pet once to get what they’re after. Taming has a 100% ‘drop rate’. From that perspective, it’s technically more beneficial for a hunter to tame a rare and be on their way than for even a group of players to kill it and most likely none of them get what they killed it for.
This has to be a mistake. He’s the big crabby thing, right? These appeared in BC, I believe, and are usually marked as humanoids. They’re intelligent and have a primitive culture.
This is true, but there’re also ‘a million more players’ out there who’ll be looking for the mount drop (and pet in this case). The playerbase as a whole never reaches a point where mobs that drop collectibles stop being farmed, so it’s always a bit of a tug of war between the collectible hunters and the pet hunters when it comes to these beasties. Blizz probably does it intentionally, seeing how often these clashes occur when they definitely have seen all of the feedback and suggestions every time they do it.
I don’t understand why they don’t just create a look-a-like for Hunters to tame. I main Hunter now and I don’t want to be stealing kills from people just to get a pet.
