Kalimdor dragonriding personal review

The races seem very well put together so far. But after spending hours grinding for dragon appearances, farming rares, customizing my dragons and developing a favorite dragon for racing, I’m automatically mounted with the basic Highland Drake mount. That would be like if Blizz offered us all these transmogs on the Trading Post, and rewards from Renown, just to deactive transmog appearances for dungeons. I worked and put time into these so I can see them in action. Been losing interest in the game but looking forward to these races and it honestly dulls the experience. Other than that, well done, looks like it must have been fun designing the courses.

Edit: it’s so obvious I forgot to add it but yes old flying feels ridiculous now. I’m curious as to why it’s not completely implemented. Perhaps it would ruin our perspective of the old worlds if we covered them too quickly? Or it might take our focus off the races, since some of us would just be zipping around everywhere? Folks would be diving into capitals where pvp is allowed and wreak havoc?

Talk to the whelplings to change mounts.

I love the speed of the Thousand Needles race. SOOOOOO fast! What a rush!

I sent that in as feedback on the PTR. Guess they like it the way it is :frowning:

Finished the races (gold) Took me a few hours or so I think.
Some routes were boring like the Un’Goro circuit. You fly around the crater in a circle to shed 0.5 sec over and over. The route is very straight forward (boring) but hard to time. It took me a while so it was extra boring.
The Durotar circuit was just nasty. I wanted to smack whoever designed the route. They placed the rings within tightly grouped obstacles. You will eventually figure out how not to hit those tiny branches and whatnot over time but a poor design to make it challenging nonetheless. I wonder what the fastest times are like for the races because I feel some of them are tuned waaaaaay too tightly.
It’s not a perfect content but I’m glad Blizzard gave it a shot.

There is 0 reason for the uldum reverse race to be as hard as it is. Period. For someone like me with a poor reaction time, having to abuse the ascent speedboost by flicking in order to earn the gold isn’t something I can do. This race makes completionist inaccessible to players who cant perform it right and it’s incredibly frustrating.

I’ve only done the bottom half of Kalamdor so far, but am having alot of fun. My mount had all his teeth knocked out and neck snapped from repeatedly smashing into trees in Durotar. Learning how to shave 7 seconds off the Ungoro time was tedious, but very rewarding when done. Plus people were in chat giving advice, so that was nice to see.

I’m too busy playing bg3. I haven’t even tried them. If your thinking the imp is going to allow static flying in DL or dragon riding in the rest of the world, you are in for a disappointment.

They said it’s coming, not sure when, but eventually.

I assume they wanna get ALL flying mounts ready for it before they ship it to the rest of the world.

You can do the races with other characters and get more currency to buy the remaining stuff.

Are you giving a pet name to Ion? That’s kinda cute.

Also both of those things will happen at some point.

It a decent event. Travel time is a pain.

I should finish getting the transmog set today and will start working on the three dragon items. Won’t win any medals but hope to at least get the bronze races done.

It is nice that the races give a little experience to lower level alts.

I’ve done … three so far, I think? Got a late start last night. Bronze only so far, but that’s OK. I’ll circle back once I’ve made the circuit and got all of them at bronze.

I’m not sweating silver or gold. If I can, good, if not, also good. I’m just enjoying the courses, loving the trips down memory lane in all these old zones I haven’t seen for years.

I enjoyed the races in each zone. It was nice to go back to those places again. I swear I hit more trees and objects in these races than any of the DF ones. :joy: I think I would have preferred to use Dragonflight to each of the races instead of normal flying, but thats just me. I ended up getting gold in each of the regular races. I’ll go back and mop up the reverse and advanced races probably later this week.

The races are extremely fun! Thousand needles, Razerfen, and Azshara in particular were a blast….especially Azshara, ran that one a few times just for the thrill of it. The only downside is how it highlights how absurdly slow normal flight is when going from race to race.

All that is left to convert to Dragonriding is Wyverns, Sky Golem (and other mechs), Flying Machines, Flying Horses and misc mounts (that don’t fit into Drakes, Proto-Drakes, Pterodactyls, Cloud Serpents, and Gryphons which are flagged for Dragonriding as of 10.1.7 PTR data) left to do.

Yes, to the basic mount. Again, devaluing all the time and effort spent customizing my mounts and earning those customizations.

Not taking away the fun others are having at all - I’m genuinely glad folks are enjoying the races. But not using my dragons is turn off for me. I’ll pass on this. Enjoy, folks.

Its been really good and great preview of what will be coming when regular flight is removed from all zones and replaced with dragonriding!

I’ll have a go at it but after all the dragon races I’ve done since launch, I’m don’t find what is so fun about it but nice to see other reviews.
