Kaldorei Breadcrumbs: The Ancient Bough

So quick tidbit in case anyone else missed it, if you go into the Ancient Bough, to the original portal into the Emerald Dream that we don’t know the destination point of in the dream (yet) there are dream echoes which play a very small “stay awhile”

So we can definitively say the souls were not destroyed no, they might get wisp-ified, might get treanted, might just be alive again. who knows. They are definitely setting something rolling within this patch, likely once ysera is back.

That’s a very cool find!

While I am happy that they’re putting Night Elf suffering on the backburner for at least the opening of Dragonflight, the absence of any Kaldorei (aside from the odd primalist) is definitely noticeable (albeit understandable), at least for me.

I will be curious to see what these souls become, and I’ll cry happy tears if my besties like Ilthalaine and Astarii Starseeker become named treants or wisps or something.

My victim fatigue has opted me to shelf my Night Elf this expansion (so far) and I’m feeling a little dejected not bringing my favorite characters through new content first, but I’ll be happy when I can feel satisfied with their story again.

What is the Ancient Bough? I’m not playing DF

Nice find, either way

An Emerald Dream portal in the far west of Ohn’ahran Plains.

It’s the only part of the zone that has dragon stuff, the rest is all centaurs and I was so bored the entire time.

I am in the minority; I liked the centaur stuff!! They talk about hunting and I’m a whole hunter. And some female centaur tried to throw shade at my skills as a hunter, so now I have an arch-nemesis that must learn to acknowledge my superior huntering skills.

She will bend the knee to me.

She will, you shall see.

They remain as spirits in Ardenweald itself, not every single night elf spirit went into that seed, only the ones ready to reincarnate. In which case they’d be reborn as children and presumably have new names once they mature. The general thing with reincarnation is that like the spirits in Bastion, you leave your old life and memories behind.

Wasn’t the Ancient Bough the name of the Bank in Darnassus?

I think it was the Gnarled Bough or something- I’m probably wrong though.

It is the Bough of the Eternals according to WoWpedia.

It appears the angle they are going with here is the souls are literally inside the seed, they have donated their recuperated anima/power towards the seed’s intended end goal. Right now one imagines they are all effectively in a dormant state within it.

The seed is an embodiment of the full cycle of Life and Death. Ardenweald (Death) has made a large contribution towards the seed’s sprouting, and now the Emerald Dream (Life) will need to as well. Isn’t it handy they are taking it into the Dream through the very first and most important portal into the Dream, and have the Green Flight that manages it to help. Including a certain dragon who embodies the whole cycle now as well.

I hope so. They must be packed in like sardines in a clown car to all fit in one seed like that.

Perhaps it is in fact a TARDIS, secretly. We should listen for that wheezy noise.

Side question, does it seem like there are a lot of Night Elf Primalists?

Koroleth, Melidrussa Chillworn, Kadros Icewrath, Daetha Stormlash. I saw like at least one other named person before.

I noticed this as well, at first I thought maybe coincidental but now I’m not so sure?

Funny what you notice. I’m noticing lots of Tauren, but killing nightelves again without a lecture is a boost. Their death scenes are so melodratic. Same goes for all elves really.

There are very few night elves who are part of the dragonscale expedition as well. It was something I noticed early on. Apperantly as Wrathion put it, they are “Still Smarting” after Anduin did what he did and put human interests first in his troop allocations for the Fourth War. When the dust settled he got Stormwind a new protectorate in the form of Strom out of the deal, but I think it was at the cost of a nearly total breakdown of Kaldorei-Alliance relations (Sans Gilnean). That they are actually showing that even a little is surprising to me.

Can’t say I blame the Kaldorei for that massive blunder by Anduin. His ally and the only alliance super power on Kalimdor just suffered a horrrible tragedy and invasion and Anduin prioritized a dead and abandoned human kingdom over helping the kaldorei.

Anduin is lucky Tyrande walking out angry is the Only thing she did

To me that whole incident felt forced and poorly timed from a narrative perspective. A lot things happen between Teldrassil and the push to retake darkshore. Tyrande waiting till the alliance had committed forces to Kultiras and elsewhere to make her demands was silly, and out of sequence, just like saurfangs so called revolt.

I originally thought they were mosty Draenei. Bought given how fanatic that Night Elves can be about THEIR vision of what makes Nature, it’s no surprise.

There is also a lot of hurt and anger over the night elf situation. Why wouldnt they join beings who want to tear it all down. Their world has ended not once, not twice, but three times now in most of the night elves lifetimes.
