Actually, they do sometimes. I have friends who work in voice over and they make weird decisions like this more frequently than you think. Just look at the film “James and the Giant Peach” - they went through and replaced all the dialogue for one of the characters because some suit at the studio said so.
I’m not saying the accusations were not the reason he was replaced - I’m only saying we don’t know for sure.
No offense to the new VA but those new lines make me cringe every single time I hear them. Kael’Thas was easily one of my favorite characters but honestly he has dropped so far down the list since the change.
Kinda hard to get over this when the old VA lines were in the game going on over 15 years now.
They do that too though. Some of the voices in Arthur and the Minimoys were changed for the DVD release from the theatrical. Voice work is a cluster of recording, rerecording and more.
As for why they changed it, the voice director may have wanted consistency across platforms. I dunno.
Again, you may be right but until the actor or Blizzard speaks up we are guessing.
It does sound suspicious that several game companies hired replacement voice actors for his characters, all just after the allegations were made.
And as others have stated, you don’t replace decades old voice-over unless it is actually required to change something in that content, especially when the voice is so similar.
That is the issue when you replace an existing character’s voice actor. You need to trade performance for finding a voice that sounds enough like the previous one. Jhin in League of Legends was another of his characters, and the new actor also fails to capture his predecessor’s whimsical elegance.
I don’t think he is. Blizzard anticipated that he would be and acted accordingly. A certain pirate is currently in the same situation.
Going back on their decision would be an admission that they messed up, which Blizzard doesn’t want to do because it’s risky. Though I do think it is the better move in every aspect, in the long run.
I do like the old voice more also however we don’t know the full story after the matter. Could very well be his own way of saying “screw you” to a business that react to these types of situations as guilty until proven otherwise. Really sad that happened. Especially blizzard being in the situation they are in themselves.
I wanted to get back on this because I think it’s important. Being a member of the Community Council carries a form of officiality - more than not being one anyway.
I made no assumption and carried no judgement on any aspect of his, or anyone else’s personnal life, and I believe no one else yet has in this thread. What we are discussing is in direct consequence of a change that was made to World of Warcraft: What better place to discuss it than the World of Warcraft forum?
While I am certain that there is some form of truth in what you are saying, it is undenyably very convenient for Blizzard that we aren’t supposed to discuss these issues here.
By that logic, nothing can ever be fully proven - There is always a tiny chance that it was falsified, or wrongfully interpreted. It is always a matter of what is the most likely to have happened, and I do believe that we have enough elements to affirm that it is extremely likely that the accusations were the reason for him not only being replaced, but having all of his previous work erased, which is a huge tell in and of itself.
The legal side is she should be paying him damages, and fines or prison time to the government for lying. Maybe she has. I don’t follow this.
When it comes to Blizzard, changing things back is as bad as changing things in the first place. Better than a public apology would be hiring for future voice work and recommendations to other employers. An apology doesn’t fix your carrier, more work does.
