Kael'thas Sunstrider in Shadowlands (Early Datamining / Spoilers)

Why are they again making him a raid boss??

again a villain ?

Technically it’s the same Kael.

I’m tired of Kael boss.

Looks like the objective of the fight will be to save him, not kill him.

I dunno. Guess we’ll see.

I’m not opposed to Kael-thas being given additional story-time in the game. I think that much like Illidan, the content creators realized that they squandered a popular character by strictly adhering to the disposable nature of raid bosses.

I would also argue that the current team driving the in-game narratives have learned how to craft better story arcs and make the most of their character roster.

I don’t think we’ll know to what extent Kael’thas will be featured in Shadowlands, but as someone that supported the resurrection of Illidan, I’m excited for the opportunity to see what happens.

phew.

You’re going to have to prove to me that they’re using the exact same pixels.

(Commentary): To those expressing concern over characters returning to Azeroth from the dead, do keep in mind that Ardenweald is literally a place of Reincarnation. This applies primarily to Wild Gods, though for all we know, souls seeking to leave the Shadowlands get cycled out through Ardenweald and get a new life somewhere in the cosmos.

(Speculative): Either way, it doesn’t seem outside of the realm of possibilities for Kael’thas or others to undergo a process of reincarnation. Vol’jin himself will be doing just that. Granted Vol’jin is to become a Loa, and a replacement for Rezan (or so the text suggested). Who knows but that characters like Kael’Thas or Uther might undergo the same process, and are simply known differently to their people. I imagine the Church of the Holy Light, for example, might canonized Uther as a Saint if he returned in the form of a Kyrian. How that could affect the Church of the Holy Light would be highly interesting. As for Kael’thas, if he returned I imagine it’d be with some Venthyr traits, and he might end up joining/leading Azeroth’s San’layn.

Really hope that’s a placeholder, it’s literally every random blood elf npc with white hair.

Also the redeemed in Revendreth can either become a Venthyr or be put into a new life “to serve”. Whatever that means.

Fancy unique models weren’t really a thing at first in the mop beta. LOTTA placeholders.

(Commentary): I think they just get sent back to the Arbiter to get sent somewhere else.

Eh that doesn’t seem like proper redemption to me. Revendreth is like “okay dude this is your last freaking chance before we throw you in The Maw”

I think there being some extra quests specifically for Blood Elves after finishing that raid would make sense.
Possibly also for Void Elves, as they are former Blood Elves and would have still been Blood Elves when Kael’thas was last with the Sin’dorei.

I also look forward to the other possible quests. Night Elves getting some specific quests with Tyrande, perhaps Paladins + Death Knights getting specific quests with Uther, and so forth.

I’m excited but also worried. Using long dead characters could easily leave a bad taste in people’s mouth depending on how things go.

It has a lot of potential but I can’t help but think back to WoD. It was a chance to see some characters that had been long dead but few of them were done any justice imo. Just a lot of hollow cameos

Well we will fight him in Castle Nathria, but it’s against his will. He’s actually on the good side in Revendreth so we are trying to save him. I’m hoping his redemption arc earns him a ticket to Azeroth and brings the San’layn into the horde as an Allied Race.

Get ready to sit around for 10 minutes for the monologue!

He’s returning the slab, it’s on his back.
