I’ve always wondered out of all the female characters I see, how many of them are women behind the keyboard? I don’t mean to assume every time I see a female character it’s a man but I do. This is probably due to the fact that most of the time this assumption tends to be true. But why? And truly wondering how split is the player base 50/50, 40/60, 30/70?
The main reason for asking this is curiosity but also, when I’m in a key or the forums, how many times are the female characters actually women?
Anyone else ever wonder this or am I weird
Edit: tbh I could have worded this better. At the end of the day I’m wondering how diverse this game is. I wanted to know am I playing with a bunch of other guys, like myself; or not. I’m not trying to make this out into anything else other than curiosity and research I went ahead and edited the post so hopefully I don’t come off as jerky. Sorry if I offend anyone I didn’t mean to come off that way or creepy
In fact back in the day, speaking up in pugs could be very weird and creepy, sometimes. Nowadays I give no fricks, and get snarky at the first sign of someone being a dillweed, but meh.
I think everyone wonders, at some point or another, who someone is behind the character. It’s only ever really a passing thought, though, as unless they’re guildies or friends im trying to group with again, who they are behind the screen doesn’t matter an iota as much as what they’re doing in the world.
Why should I care if my tank isn’t who they claim to be if they aren’t talking trash and are keeping aggro like a boss?
I have a friend, and she said she dosen’t want it to be known she is a women in game to strangers bc ppl will treat her differently. She tries to hid it too with her mog. I think it’s sad that she feels that way. So was just kinda wondering what other ppl do and if maybe others try to mask
I think it’s bc I pug so much I just wonder if the game is really as diverse as I think. Am I constantly playing with a bunch of men or is it more balanced and it’s 50/50 playerbase
You are not weird, maybe creepy for asking, but not weird. No one should really care who is playing the game or what someone’s gender is, just enjoy the game and other peoples company.
I’d say maybe 40% of my guild is female but that’s a pretty high ratio, when you have a guild that exists as a safe haven to chill out in while doing your own thing (mounts, pets, achievements etc), you tend to attract more quiet friendly types, within that group there tends to be more women.
I think it’s only weird if you think a lot about who is behind the keyboard instead of just accepting that you’re in a fantasy game and anyone can be anything they want.
I wasn’t trying to come off that way . I wondered it badly. I was just simply curious at how much of the player base is men vs women. I know it’s a stereotype women don’t play videogames so I was curious to know how many really do.
