Just wanted to ask Beta users

I love WW monk, truly. But I hate – HATE(!) – Touch of Karma being a dps tool. Is (has) that been addressed in Shadowlands? Last I read it looks like it’s going to be even worse this expansion.
I don’t mean to imply it’s a problem necessarily, of course. I know some do enjoy using it as a dps tool. But I don’t think it’s meant to have been, and I do anecdotally see most(?) WW monks expressing grievance about it.

Thank you in advance.

no :frowning: /10char

ToK honestly ain’t that bad. It makes for great amp damage to ToD, but i get where you’re coming from. I’ve also seen plenty of WWs not like using ToK as damage or just not like ToK. And I feel like that mostly lies with how Blizzard has addressed WW damage and WW defensives.

To start things off, Karma is our only baseline defensive, and we can talent into one more. We used to have baseline Fort brew, healing elixirs, and 90% zen med, but now we’re more or less left with 1 defensive CD. Currently, WW is pretty CD dependent for damage. So much so that ToD and ToK were nerfed in the first raid tier of BfA and Blizzard said they’d give us more sustained. Flash forward to Nya’lotha, aaaaaaand we’re bottom of the barrel dps (for raiding anyway).

I honestly don’t know what numbers blizz is crunching to justify keeping our damage low because of ToD and ToK, but it would appear that they just don’t care. Which is something i can admire, but it would have been great IF blizzard didn’t care about ToK and ToD damage and just left our damage high in general and not tune our damage with ToK and ToD in mind.

I think most WWs would appreciate that. We may still have several year old bugs, have had a lot of tools nerfed/stripped from us, but at least we would be able to pew pew really hard.

Currently is the proper usage to use ToK as a damage amp for ToD to use ToK BEFORE or After pressing ToD?

Before, ToK applies a dot. It doesn’t do damage directly.

Optimally, I use it before ToD while eating a big hit to get the DoT rolling. However, that doesn’t meant taunt the boss to eat a fist sandwich. It means know fights/mechanics well enough to use them to your advantage.

I mean honestly it’s not that much dmg overall and can be unsafe to try using it for dmg these days.

Here’s my monk by the way, kinda just finishing off getting KSM as WW and probably putting this toon on the back burner unless I focus on tanking/healing more.

But was just curious if ToK was worth working into my damage rotation more.

Honestly I don’t ever use karma but as a way to avoid having to move out of corruption so I am not sucking mana from the healer(s) or to be able to cheese through a particular mechanic to keep up time on the boss.

Yeah thats been my motto as well.

I mainly time Karmas with ToD or if there’s a big damage spike incoming. Karma with 80%-90% vers up is pretty awesome. I rarely use it just out of the blue to throw damage around. Don’t really need Karma for corruption because even things from beyond tickle now.

Thank you for saying that! Tbh, I left early into BfA, so I’m not sure what patches brought. But I thought at one point the WW damage was such that they were considering ToK in their number crunching. Meaning, they wanted to give WW more sustain and reduce those CD bursty windows (using ToK) but then they didn’t actually fix it? But I could be wrong! And tbh I hope I am. I’d love if someone could tell me definitively you could not use it and you wouldn’t see a difference (or at least any difference would be negligible).

I do pretty high parses and not use it for it’s dmg

I really hate the use of our defensive CD to be competitive for dmg. It forces me to use it on cooldown around a mechanic or to stand in purple stuff. If shadowlands requires ToK to be a major contributing factor to my DPS, I won’t be playing WW.

It would be cool if the baseline version healed and the talented version gave us some immunity bubble for mechanics and just remove the DPS aspect of it.

It’s why i quite in bfa, I’m honest.
Well, one of two reasons haha. MW is my favorite spec, but my guild didn’t need me. WW is my second favorite Dps spec, but I really disliked using ToK and feeling it was so integral to dps.

Or I guess ostensibly I could just be a bad WW and it felt integral. But site after site read to use it as a dps cool down. I hated that and I’m sad it doesn’t look like it’s changing

I constantly don’t use it for dps and I do pretty good dps
