Just upgraded to 16gb RAM. Should I do a custom size under Virtual memory?

So i just bought a 8gb ram stick 1600mhz, upgrading to 16gb RAM, and it works with my pc. All doing well sofar.
question: should I do the custom Virtual Memory thing where I set Initial size to 16gb x 1.5 and Max size to Initial size x 3? Or am i good to have the “Automatically manage paging file size for all drives” box checked under Virtual Memory, know what I mean?? ty

Let windows manage your virtual memory/page file.

So that’s a yes on checking the box for “Automatically manage paging file size for all drives” at the very top. Why not a custom size??

yeah, just not necessary

This has never been good advice - even going back as far as Windows 3.0 when Virtual Memory was first introduced. It was at best a starting point due to the absence of any meaningful defaults. After all, why would a system with more physical memory also need more virtual memory than one with less?

The only time you might want to override the global automatic management is when you want to specify which drive the swapfile is on. And it should be left on automatic for that specific drive (or drives).

I hope this isn’t the reason he had problems this whole time

i did this like a few days ago but alas, i will take your advice and leave it by its default. ty, guys :] i’m really noticing the upgrade. i also bought a Netgear Nighthawk AC1900 Wi-Fi USB Adapter and pshh, compared to my old dinky wifi adapter, this other upgrade kicks dick!
