Just told my s/o I play wow

i dont keep it a secret, moment i hear mention of it, or see anything it.

i act as a walking lore book and describe them what it is, same with a few other things i know like Warhammer, halo, ect ect.

lol Yeah when I see someone bringing up WOW I’m like OH OH OH!!! lol Start babbling and half the time I feel like they’re like - oh god why did I say anything how do I shut her up?! lmao

i once saw a guy bring a book with deathwing on it, he didn’t know the dragon so i describe too him what he is and what he did.

next thing i know, he says “Oh that’s interestin!”

it’s also weirder when you learn yer supervisor also is a gamer and a D&D nerd when he asks you too play a game with him.

I’m not sure I follow, “the states” generally indicates the USA. You also said

which I took as a reference to American English, so I was highlighting that it’s still prevalent in UK English speaking nations (such as Australia)

It seems you might have been referencing those from non-English speaking nations? In which case my bad, though specifically mentioning “from the states” when you meant “from the English speaking world” is a touch confusing in all fairness, if that’s the case

Exactly.

No reason to feel that way - what I said was rather vague taking another look at how I said it. I’m bad at doing things like that, then on the other spectrum I give TOO MUCH info/definition to what it is I’m trying to say, like right now. Never ending cycle for me lol

Yes, improper wording. /sigh

But ty for not completely blasting me for it and seeing a possible “other side/meaning” to what I was trying to get across. lol

This. So FN much!

i used to have a WOW Shaman tshirt. my wife thought it was goofy. there are a lot of WOW players that would talk to me because they saw it.

There is that commercial of a dude with the horde sticker on his notebook and a guy didnt want to sit with him because of it. its funny how people do react in real life when it comes to wow.

It’s funny my wife thought the same thing when we first started dating. She knew I played video games but underestimate the time commitment it took for wow. This was around wod. So she started calling me once in a while to talk but in reality it was so see what I was doing. Every time she called she just heard the sound of a keyboard in the background.

She was like “ok so he’s not cheating just a giant nerd” lol

So wait
you were, what, pretending you didn’t play video games? Like at all?

I’m sorry but if you felt like you had to pretend you were uninterested in something that you like just to get this person to like you, that’s probably not a relationship worth investing time in. Your s/o doesn’t need to share your hobbies, but they should support you having a hobby without judgement.

You should have told her you were writing your Thesis

Oddly enough I was writing my masters thesis at the time too
but it was mostly wow lol

I was moving to Phoenix some years back, and was wearing my Paladin t-shirt. Stopped in a restaurant for a meal, and my server was about to explode with excitement meeting a fellow WoW player.

The wife and I go to DragonCon every year, and are generally always wearing one of the shirts or some other geeky apparel when out and about. Always awesome when someone comments or expresses interest, and we enjoy also giving tips for first-timers going to a convention.

Embrace your geekness, don’t be ashamed of it.

Gotcha

It’s fine, I can see what you mean now. It was just phrased from more of a personal than global standpoint

Slightly if you want to get really nitpicky, but you are right

Considering it’s colloquial that usage of those words isn’t something I’d expect
peeps who aren’t pretty familiar with the language to know/recognise, but like everyone raised in an English speaking nation probably should

I don’t see why anyone would have to hide this, but then me and my wife first started dating in high school before WoW was even released, infact my first MMO SWG was released a few months after we started dating so I didn’t even know what an MMO was when we first met.

What was you thinkin’?

Bruh it’s a video game, not p0rn.

Haa balance I love it

Some of us were raised in a time and place where playing video games is highly frowned upon and a children’s hobby. (Yet acceptable to sit on a couch and watch hours of tv smh)
