I’ll never forget my time spent on Emerald Dream. Though it only lasted from MoP to BfA, they were the best years I had with this game, and likely ever will.
During the early days of WoD, while jumping around my garrison with nothing else to really do, I saw in chat someone was starting up a Blood Elf WPvP guild. “Wow, I’m a blood elf! I like WPvP!”
I messaged the poster, though it’s been several years and I can’t remember who it even was… I do recall it being either Thal, the leader, or Ivae, one of the officers.
Over the next several weeks, the guild absolutely blew up. Before long, it was a full guild of almost entirely Blood Elves, with a few exceptions for class related reasons. And just about all we did, aside from our weekly meetings, was PvP. In particular, WPvP.
The alarms would ring and dozens of us would band together to defend SMC from the various alliance guilds seeking to destroy our great city. Once the fighting had settled, we would go on the offensive, porting to the Swamp of Sorrows and flying off to get a reaction from raiding Goldshire.
We would seek out fights and defend from incursions all across Draenor, in particular we spent many hours in and around Lion’s Watch in Tanaan Jungle.
And whether we won the fighting or whether we lost, it was entirely enjoyable. We paraded around with our Hawkstriders, taking to the air with our swarm of Dragonhawks. Sometimes we got stomped, but we would laugh it off, head back to the city and mess about in guild chat. Sometimes we dominated and celebrated, taking screenshots and videos with our fallen foes.
It was fun. It was genuinely the last time I thoroughly enjoyed logging in. It wasn’t because of any new raid, dungeon or boss fight. It was the simplicity of community and world pvp. Though I still play to this day, albeit on a different server, it just isn’t the same. I’ll never forget those days.
Thank you to the Elves of the North, our various Horde allied guilds and our Alliance enemies, you all made it possible and enjoyable to be apart of the greater Emerald Dream community. Though this may just be a silly game, those are memories I will never forget.
