I’ve seen a lot of posts in here saying to focus on the healing first then worry about DPS… and we’ll if you were playing literally any other healing spec, I’d be inclined to agree… but since you were playing Disc… these responses pretty much just highlight a problem within the community and possibly why you were kicked as well…
a surprisingly high number of players simply don’t understand how discipline priest works… so many out there think that it’s just about putting up shields and preventing damage before it happens… but that’s not disciplines forte… while yes, it does provide a fair amount of damage prevention, it is designed specifically to heal through DPS… you HAVE to DPS as disc… otherwise your just spamming Shadow Mend and burning through your mana so fast it’s not even funny…
The problem with Disc though, is early game their healing is bad… I’m not going to sugar cost it… at low levels your Attonement heals are barely enough to scrape by with a tank who actively uses their CDs on a regular basis. A tank who “forgets” that they have any defensive CDs until they are about to die is an absolute nightmare to heal as discipline… with them you are pretty much forced to use Shadow Mend as your primary heal instead of Attonement… your mana will always be depleted after every pull because of that, and if the tank chain pulls too then things are going to go from bad to worse very fast.
Best thing to do is announce your new to discipline at the start of a dungeon and with any luck the tank will play smart.
