Just got a 455 2her and decided to give Surv a try

MSV is more fun now then RSV has ever been.

It gets better with better gear. The problem is, you’re comparing SV, a melee spec, to the easiest ranged spec in the entire game.

One thing you’ll notice is that with Coordinated Assault up, you do more damage per hit, and with Blue of Talons, you’re able to prolong the effect. Combine that with Lucid and a whole lot of haste, and you’ll see a lot of single-target damage. You want haste so everything goes faster - once you’ve got a sufficient amount (I’m only at 30% or so), you’re going to cause quite a bit of damage.

In addition, the talent trees aren’t incredibly bad, offering QOL, single target and AOE options so you can customize your SV to the content. Obviously, some talents are better than others, but my favorite remains Butchery, which is more or less a beefed-up Whirlwind.

It’s a good spec, and it’s a lot of fun to play. If anything, introducing SV as melee has given me a chance to work on being a better melee player, something I can transfer over to other classes.

I went the poison spec and it felt a lot smoother. Maybe I’m just not a hunter player, but my WW monk feels a lot more smooth with easier AoE. I’ll keep giving surv a shot though to see if it’s worth maining in SL.

Oi !

It will take time for sure. There’s a few things you need to get used to first… specially compared to BM. Few things I can say:

Haste, Haste, Haste and more Haste ! Buy those haste corruption… its insanely good for SV.

2 Choice of Azerite to aim for, Latent poison build or guerilla / bombs. If you don’t like dots / stack managing I’d suggest you go for bomb build.

Abuse the wildfire talent at lvl 100 ! The effects on it are really important. Make sure to have bloodseeker as well, combine with the bleed effect of wildfire + carve things get can nasty!

If you aim to do some PvP as well, you’ll have a blast doing so ! But thats something else.

In the end, yes you’ll still do less dmg than BM, they have the better optimized numbers, but you’ll be able to pull up your weight and do good dmg.

Dont let the haters discourage you and push it ! You’ll enjoy it.

It hilarious that posters will complain when you show up in a post, but will call you out if you have not.

Only issue you may come across is if you try higher content like M+ or raiding. Only then you may run into some “haters”, but that is mostly due to people who want BM cause it is one of the meta specs and range. However, best way to not run into this is to just find a guild that does not worry what you play as.

If you like MSV and just casual player then there is nothing to worry about as MSV does great damage and has about same utility as the other Hunter specs. Hates is your biggest stat you want as it speeds up rotation, and if you just want to keep your rotation simpler you can pick Birds of Prey as a talent. As long as you have one trait of Blur of Talons it is a decent single-target talent for all situations.

I like Alpha Predator and Bloodseeker combo as it makes my pet more apart of my rotation than just back up dps.

Bm is pretty brain dead so no survival wont be easier to play than bm. I like survival more but I can legit play one handed and afk half the time as bm in pve with phenomenal results lol…

Didn’t think or want it to be easier, point us that it felt clunky af, took more effort and had way less results than bm

The rotation being “clunky” is subjective but yes BM’s rotation is much easier, more forgiving and deals more damage while being fully ranged. What exactly were you expecting?

You need a lot of haste as survival you’ll probably never be able to play both because their stats are different. You’ll just have to pick one and go for it. You need the right traits and talents as well.

Not sure why you’re so defensive, lol. BM has crazy throughput for how easy it is. Looks like I’m shelving the hunter unless mm becomes decent in PvP again in shadowlands

I had the same problems trying to get into SV and actually enjoy it. You do seemingly put in more work than other specs but might not equal the results.

To me SV is fine as a melee spec, I just don’t enjoy how it was implemented. Using MB constantly, building 5 stacks, just isn’t very fun to me. Especially with how annoying it is constantly having to refresh your sting and bomb. It’s like Blizz they made the spec butt backwards and decided, hey we’ll just make them refresh sting and bomb every .5 seconds so they have more buttons than just MB to press.

I’ve gotten more used to it and have had better results, but still hasn’t really become any more enjoyable, rather just a change of pace spec for me. Most players will probably do more damage as BM, simply having an easier rotation, being ranged and easier time to swap/stay on targets.

I find BM super boring personally. Casting barbed shot repeatedly, using boring as heck cobra shot, and less than exciting kill command, just so bland and boring. Then you get to talent into chinera, another boring as F ability. Nothing has any oomph for BMs abilities or any kind of fun visual flare to make things more enjoyable.

To me the hunter class is in its all time most boring, bland, and unfun to play state. I’ve mained hunter since vanilla and it’s sad how unenjoyable they developed it.

Is your bleed almost always up? (from your gear)

Ya it has really good uptime.
