I am honestly hoping the Ray Tracing feature provide potential for new hair color customization. I would give anything to have Obsidian hair instead of purple.
It’s not like your opinion isn’t biased, no?
But as someone who plays both factions, I do try to be more aware of my own biases, and I think they are pretty much boiled down to player choice should further reflect the possibilities of the setting and not be beholden by arbitrary gameplay constraints.
It’s not about getting the last word, but making clear that opinions like “people who want high elves are just whiners” is really reductive about why people want options like High Elves to be playable on the first place.
It’s easier to dismiss other’s opinion without any proper thought, but like, let’s try not to.
Wrong. My Warrior in Classic is an Orc. So if Belves weren’t available, I’d pick a different race. I have one of each Horde side anyway.
No.
Let the remaining distinctions between the two races remain.
Forsaken need some love too… any love going into SL that isn’t Chinese hand-me-downs would be fantastic.
The only new content Forsaken are actually getting is a few new haircuts… woo-freakin’-hoo.
What’s the point of arbitrary limits on customization that don’t reflect the setting? What’s the point of distinction if it isn’t based by the setting itself?
Distinction for distinction sake is pointless, specially when it neither reflects nor codifies lore -what is even the reason why VE would have natural eye colors and skin, but not hair (ostensibly the easiest thing to change in one’s appareance)-
Distinction could exist and be interesting, as long as it actually reflects the lore of the setting, but for its own sake, it’s simply worthless.
The only lens you’re looking at this through is a lore one, and not a gameplay one, and even then you’re making assumptions on why they got fair skin tones at all. These visuals play crucial roles in a race’s identity, and since the skin color is now shared the remaining distinctions play an even larger role.
Unique visual themes play a large role when players pick their race, every race should have something unique that sets it apart from the others, something that brings the player to the decision to choose that race. Not even the Nightborne and Night elf example will compare should Void elves also get Blood elf skin, and hair colors.
Why should blood elves be the only race faced with having to share all of their visual themes with another race? How can you act like that shouldn’t bother someone simply because it doesn’t bother you? It’s like you’re willing to downplay and invalidate a very real, and shared perspective, strong enough that players are willing to voice, and appose it at every turn.
Don’t agree with it, that’s fine, but don’t go around trying to pretend you have some highground that means you’re allowed to undermine those who disagree by saying their argument is only some effort to keep something away because they can, when in reality they’re trying to defend what little themes remain that give their race a unique flavor from a carbon copy.
Hell no… what is wrong with you even thinking of asking for this? I’m surprised you even got the skin colors.
You chose to play a Void Elf.
. . . cripes one small request and people get up in arms like you’ve insulted their entire family.
honestly I see no harm in hair colors, blood elves can keep their anime hair, though I would like a few non greasy and or wet looking hairstyles, maybe like 5 “NEW” regular hairstyles and like 5 voidy ones (per gender of course). fel I’d even be willing to let the Sin’dorei have some of the void elf styles and colors in exchange, only seems fair.
In your eyes maybe, but it’s a big deal to the Blood Elf players who’s race gotten almost completely ripped off and given to the opposite faction rendering them far less unique as a race in the process, then having to see people requesting what little unique features they have left also get ripped off, making them even worse of a choice as a core race, than the Allied race that ripped them off.
Blood Elves already lost the uniqueness of one theme they’ve had for over a decade, and instead of them getting compensated a new unique theme to help them standout, here are people demanding to further rip off whatever FEW leftover unique features they still possess.
The display of greed and complete disregard to other players own racial attachment is on a whole new level here.
No, it is not a small request. No it is not fair to Blood Elf players. You also don’t get to define what objectively defines it’s level importance, only based on how you view it.
You seem to be taking this rather personally.
You do realize I only agreed on colors right? The way I see it these new void elves are going the Alleria route to void power and not the “almost become an ethereal ritual” route, so unless the void REALLLY hates the colors blonde, orange, brown, and silver then it only makes sense. Again they can keep their unique anime inspired hairstyles, I’d prefer new styles for the void elves (both natural and voidy)
Blood elves will still outnumber them in the meta by a country mile regardless due to the awful faction imbalance and the large portion of male players playing female blood elves because “if imma stare at a butt all day, it might as well be a hot girl’s butt.”
Edit: I mean no offense, also did you read my post beyond that one sentence?
Because I pointed out the injustice that Blood Elves have been dealt? A race I don’t even play nor have played before btw. It’s more factual than personal.
That’s no ground for further ripping off of what little uniqueness the Blood Elves have. Just because they’re the Horde’s most popular race, does not mean they deserve any less fair treatment by the devs, on the contrary infact, they’d do well in giving them more attention, thus statistically more satisfied players.
Overstated at best. The faction imbalance is often reported within ~5% difference, which varies from region to region, AND given that there are only two factions, one will always have the upper hand at any given time. If you do have hard Blizzard numbers of course, feel free to link them to me, but until then I’m going to assume that there IS no real faction imbalance, aside from the super high end game content being done better on the Horde side. (Again, one faction will have that aspect at higher representation aswell)
I have read it fully more than once, but given that the start of it portrays these demands as “small”, it was my focus of the response.
It all comes down to this:
“Add hair colors” soon becomes “add golden eyes,” then “add paladins…”
Why not take the blood elf heritage armor while you’re at it and say it’s technically “high elven heritage” and therefore should apply to void elves as well?
Nothing personal, but racial identity still matters to some people.
They were still around Fel magic which as we know is radioactive
That’s a bit of an extreme jump don’t you think? I mean yea I can’t deny that there’s someone out there that wants that but the vast majority of us don’t . . . I sure as fel don’t
The solution to this is rather simple. Delete both Void Elves and Blood elves and give Alliance High elves. No elves for Horde!
Gnomes and Goblins need another healing class before we need anything added to any elves.
Blood Elves aren’t the only race that has say brown and blonde hair, get over yourself.
I could understand your point, if we were asking for say Goblins.
But Blood Elves are EXACTLY like the Pandaren, with being the exact same minus a few morals and they eye color thing, on each faction. But back then Neutral races didn’t exist. Allied races were the perfect way to begin to implement it.
Which honestly giving us normal skin tones and not hair tones is more of a slap in the face, then allowing us the High Elf feel that has ALWAYS existed on the alliance.
The unique factor for them, honestly lies solely with the eye color as it should, and having 99% of the hawk strider mounts as well as Silvermoon.
First off, thank you for the links and the info. Secondly I believe I remember BC mentioned Blood Elven eyes healing over time with their new Sunwell too. I just assume the yellow eyes are in part from the new Sunwell and that the light can remove Fel (as shown by when Xe’ra tried to ‘fix’ Illidan).
play damn horde if you want to have blood elf
It’s super populated, sure, but all of their zones are barren and gross.
