Blue Eyed Blood Elves, are actually just representing High Elves that defected to Silvermoon after the Sunwell was repaired. Any current Blood Elves that don’t have Green Eyes as a result of the Sunwell now have Yellow, based on the lore.
There are apparently Dark Rangers by the embassy who say 90% of them stayed loyal to the Horde over Sylvanas, maybe this is a hint at an unlockable scenario similar to the Night Warrior stuff?
I can agree to that, honestly the Ear size thing should be a Void Elf option too, as it’s not unique. The unique 1-2 Brown/Green Felblood skins they got went to Void Elves too for no reason, and the Yellow Eyes they finally got to represent the new Sunwell, and as a counter to Lightforged Draenei, was literally only an eye color, and no special tattoos or anything else light based.
This goes back to racial identity. I don’t mind sharing eye color, but I want something unique on the Belf side as well. Give us unique scars, unique tattoos, unique eyebrow options. Just something that distinguishes is from our void brethren.
Not really. These particular new Blue Eyes were even in the official announcement which was worded to say "Blue eyes added to both Blood Elves and Void Elves.
Furthermore, Void Elves were Blood Elves, so how exactly are blue eyes exclusive to them but “unjustified to Blood Elves”?
This seems like headcanon, otherwise I’d like a lore/official citation of it.
When glancing at other customization options (orc scars, night elf vines, Draenei jewelry colors, etc) it makes me hopeful that Belves will get that same love. It’s just… not here yet.
My biggest goal is a second visual theme for BE’s though too, so Dark Ranger is my preferred option. An overboard of Light ideas is another option, light tentacles, golden skin tones, holy tattoos etc. And then Felbloods another.
Dark Ranger could double with San’layn options potentially, if we saw the undead skin and red eyes, if they connect any further customizations later maybe something in Ravendreth is tied to San’layn? And then they could add the claws and fangs. Just a thought though.
I don’t really object to more customization for blood elves. What I object to is a halfway job on void elves. The point was to allow void elves to look like Void Elf #1, Alleria, and that requires hair colors as well as skin colors.
The citation is Ion saying “Belfs aren’t getting blue eyes as it doesn’t make sense for them” last month, and then when the blue eyes are added they say this in an interview:
“This is another place where there was a race, High Elves, in the game which hadn’t really been represented on player characters. Blood Elves were the closest, but had felt green eyes. It was an opportunity where we had a number of elven races, and we could tie it back to their roots, letting players choose where they want to align and what fantasy to play out. We did have a lot of discussion about it, ultimately we might do more in the future, but for now we’re providing the option to have a few High Elf customizations available.”
So he literally specifically says the blue eyes options for Belfs represent them being original High Elfs, saying “tie it back to their roots” and “let them play out that fantasy”.
Quote from Ely Cannon, Art Director for World of Warcraft
Nothing about the green “Fading back to blue” for current Belves. That’s your headcanon.
I see where you’re coming from, but if we are going to discuss the AR customization limitations, it should be taken into account how many other AR also have lackluster options.
And many AR have more options than others as is. Thankfully Blizzard has announced more options for them in the future, but they said they’d prioritize core races first.
Being near the Fel corrupts races, if in heavy doses, so that races can be effected from second hand Fel so to speak, they’ve canonically said that’s why Blood Elves all have Green Eyes, even if they didn’t all use Fel magic.
We were told the new Sunwell would fix the corruption of the Blood Elves, and we would eventually see this in their eyes.
The light is known to heal even the most heinous of Fel corruption, when in strong doses. The Sunwell is literally a mixture of pure Azerite & the heart of a Naaru essentially.
High Elves are welcomed back into to Silvermoon when ever they want, Lor’themar never stops them. Not to mention the recent interviews said that all Blue Eyes are for High Elf customizations only.
Regarding Eye colors it was White/Pale Blue for VEs & Yellow/Green for BEs, now VEs get Purple, and they both get proper blue shades.
That’s literally all we’ve ever been told on their eye colors and lore behind it.
First of all Ion said a lot of other things regarding blue eyes and fair skin colors for blood elves and void elves. He’s the same dev who said fair skin colors also didn’t make sense for void elves, yet here we are.
But regardless, what you linked does NOT cite anything about the reason as to WHY Blood Elves are getting blue eyes, but rather than why Ion thinks they “shouldn’t”.
This only confirms that they’re giving the two races a few High Elf customizations, and NOT as to what lore reasons are behind it. The poster you’re trying to link this for, claimed that Blue Eyes were ONLY happening because of High elves who “defected” back to Quel’Thalas after the restoration of the sunwell, and I asked for a citation of that. Your link does nothing but waste my time
I kinda see your point here, but Blood Elves are the exact same model, and arguably they will share many customizations, it makes sense, to just do the both of them at the same time, and share options between the two, for instance they’re probably gonna honestly give VEs shorter ears too, and take the data straight from the Blood Elves. Which makes sense honestly.
