Just getting back

Is housing better when you’re part of an active community? I’ve seen people talking about different community levels and wasn’t sure how that affects things.

Can I just start a house now and pick it up later if I find a more active community, or move it somewhere else later?

Housing, or at least leveling, is better with an active community that will get you the 250xp bonus chest for completing endeavors.

You can totally start now, and move later. It’s what I did.

Yes. Like every other group activity in this game, it’s a lot better if you find an active community. Many advertise with the in game guild and community finder tools; I’m a part of a few, and at least those few I’m involved with are extremely active and social when it comes to housing.

Public neighborhoods are generally graveyards, mostly filled with people who have locked their doors or people who bought a house and never came back. Those who care about housing also tend to move into housing oriented communities.

You can freely move at any time. Your house will exist in limbo if you remove it from a plot. The only downside is that each plot has different rotations and different layouts of the “entrance” (where the cornerstone is), so you will likely need to edit or redo your exterior upon moving to a different plot in a new neighborhood. If you find an identical plot in your new neighborhood, it will transfer over exactly as you left it.
