Just FIRED Ythisens And gave $15 MILLION to some SUIT

And yet people wonder why the millennial generation has a much more favorable view on socialism compared to the rest…lol.

Looks like we can expect even less communication now, and Ythisens hadn’t even done much on the General forums for the last while. So RIP “more communication” that Blizzard kept trying to peddle.

Annually I think it was a million in cash.

The suits don’t care about improving communication with existing players. All they care about is getting the easy money from China where people don’t question those in power.

It makes for better drama.

We are already seeing things like more frequent store mounts. I expect it to continue.

Yeah, I know he came across as a little unfriendly but whoa. He was the only one that talked to us with any regularity. Das some ox… uh, crud.

They are just trimming the fat so they can focus on other things. This happens all of the time. They also haven’t outright paid the new CFO. They gave him the ability to earn a boat load of cash based on performance. Not saying this is good for us either, but let’s not pretend like Ysthiens or others of the like actually did anything useful to the majority of Blizzard customers.

They don’t have any fat left to trim lol. When you trim non development that is integral for development team to do their jobs it is grim.

775 people aren’t fat. Especially when they are still giving big bonuses to their execs.

I don’t know about that man… they laid off esports managers, forum managers, community people etc. I’d say that’s trimming the fat. If they laid off loads of devs, art folks, and other game oriented jobs I’d be more worried. We don’t need all this extra stuff, we just need good games.

TBH not very surprising it was a good profit year, but ppl got fired.

even if the early year was fine…
late 2018:
they shafted the Diablo fanbase @ blizzcon.

they basically stated they removing heroes of the storm team memebrs.

OW’s balance has been getting worse ratehr than better and only gonna be a 1 or 2 new heroes a year)

WoW BFA is seen as a failure by many (i dont mind it apart from the bad writing for sylvanas and saurfang and the Mists storyline rehash after stating they wouldnt do garrosh 2.0)

Starcraft 2…that hasnt had much happen in ages.

about only “thriving” IP they have atm is likely hearthstone (the horror)

Was it? Because he rarely communicated anything outside of a joke thread. If his hands were tied and he couldn’t talk about anything then he wasn’t needed anyway.

GD: YEAH, LAYOFFS COMING! CAN’T WAIT TO SEE HEADS ROLL!
BLIZZARD: lays off Ythisens
GD: WE DIDN’T MEAN HIM!

Be careful what you ask for – you may get it.

Yea, it is kinda ironic. We were kinda hoping it wouldn’t be many people and it would be people that consistently keep class design a mess

I’ve seen requests for devs to be re-evaluated, and Ion himself, but not so much blanket chopping. Like, who’s gonna be our most reliable CM now? Do we even have one? We’re gonna have the odd generic, impersonal Blue news post and that’s it? The people who hear that and think “Good idea!” are the ones the cries have been for, I think.

Kotick and the rest of the Activision higher ups always struck me as the type of people who would skin their own mother alive if they thought it would bring them record profits and today has only reaffirmed those beliefs.

This is comparable to preventative medicine for a company.

By the time they get to firing class devs and the like, the patient is critical.
