Nobody said it was core, you’re the one who thinks it’s somehow better for the game not to have it though - which you have still failed to back up. The idea it was bad for the game has already been soundly defeated.
Time wise, flying is activated in each expansion longer than it is not. So objectively you are not stating facts again.
And again, you are just here to argue. You are trolling.
And yet again. This post isnt about how flying HAS been a part of WoW. Its about how designing an entire expac, with flying in mind at the start could be beneficial to the experience.
I feel like this one of those scenarios where you should be careful what you wish for.
If they design content around flying then its going to come at loss of your freedom while in the air. I would fully expect mechanics and mobs to be created just to keep you on the rails of their theme park ride. Basically all the annoyances of using a ground mount would get translated into the flying experience in one way or another.
i really don’t think people would miss flying so much if being on the ground wasn’t just an inconvenience. if there was a real reason to explore on the ground. the last time i remember enjoying no flying was the timeless island, and they really just scratched the surface there with one small island. the wow parkour was always a favorite of mine.
simply make not flying more fun than flying and the issue will solve itself. until that point, flying please.
Imagine making a whole point about why flying is bad for game design, arguing for engaging options that aren’t just point and AFK, and then some boomer thinks “kick rocks” is a good come back response.
If we are going to base the max level around flight TBH the mechanics behind flight would need to be changed as well so stuff like ground based mounts are still useful not to mention the flaws the game design has due to a mix of technical limitations during the initial design and everything else. I would rather they not touch flight and leave it as it is. I can deal with the delay, especially since traversing most zones is so easy with the wheel+spoke design they have literally implemented everywhere.
They complain if they get slowed down on their ground mounts as well.
And rightly so. The mechanic has no place in a game with scaled content where you can go anywhere. It made sense when it was there to keep low level toons from death running through high level content but now it serves no purpose other than to annoy and waste time.
They actually did until Ion took over. Icecrown actually couldn’t be completed without flying. Then Ion took over and said “flying is fun and therefore a mistake,” and even tried to ban it.
It feels like we’re always forced to experience the landscape though. Here, look at my artwork! Isn’t the texture on this road beautiful? See how I framed the approach to this temple? I love Blizzard’s artwork but I’d like to be free to experience it when I’m not trying chain run WQs to grind out a pathetic handful of anima.
If anything, Shadowlands seems designed with flying in mind. There are huge drops, places in Bastion you have to ride well out of your way to get to a bridge, and Revendreth is so convoluted to navigate without flying I tend to actively avoid questing there.
Because you need to land to do anything? Kill mobs, quest, gather materials, craft, raid, dungeon, interact, pvp, etc, etc, etc? MoP had flying and I still got to see more than enough of it’s beauty.
