They made survival melee? By that logic, we should give warriors a ranged spec.
Now we only have 1 archer spec which is nuts, because when you think of an army in a LoTR-esque setting, there’s plenty of melee but right behind them are the archers.
They could’ve done this to BM and I wouldn’t care, but they picked survival which was a good alternative to MM.
Give us another archer class Blizz. We have 2 magic dps classes (warlock, mage), 4 melee classes (warrior, death knight, demon hunter, paladin) so why cant we have 2 ranged dps classes. Symmetry.
**Edit: **
Really all that I am saying is, we need another spec that focuses on ranged damage like MM.
And whether they achieve this by adding a 4th spec to hunter or making an entirely new ranger class, I would be happy with either.
While I’m all for another physical ranged dps class (something like Machinist from FFXIV would be cool. That kind of sounds like tinker tbh) I like SV the way it is for the most part. Sure it could use a few tweaks, but at the core it’s solid.
Well it seems that at this point, melee survival is staying.
But if this is the case, Blizzard should add at least one more ranged damage dealing spec. Because at this point, only 1 spec out of all specs from all classes uses a bow and arrow. Sure BM uses a bow but when the pet does 80 pct of the damage who cares. Meanwhile, we have several melee specs and several magic/caster specs that deal damage.
1 out of 30 is archer. Make it 2 out of 30 at the very least. And no, BM doesn’t count.
Archers are a staple in Warcraft. Just like warriors, mages, priests etc. So let’s finally have some representation.
I agree wow could use a second ranged archer type spec instead of only one option available. Full rainbow of melee options even ranged casting has nice chunk. But ranged archer just one sole answer. Also i have issue with it cause it pushes for no pet play, but bm is 95% pet abilities and a snake launcher. Id like range spec to have like 50 50 with you and pet or idk. Just sucks all classes in game one spec uses bow as stat stick and only 1 really uses it.
For hunters, what’s currently missing is a spec which has a focus on one or several of the following:
Enhanced ammunition/arrows
Enhanced traps
DoTs
Abilities that deal non-physical damage, but still aren’t magical in theme(just because the tooltip says Fire/Nature etc. it doesn’t mean that it has to be magic).
A middle-ground for pet reliance. A spec which can have both the Lone Wolf-option, and simultaneously also has options to add in more reliance on pets(talents). As, all three current specs are on opposite sides of the extremes. Either baseline reliance on pet(BM/MSV), or pretty much none at all(MM).
The theme, and design of RSV, could easily cover all of those elements. The concept I linked above, is just a way to do so.
Are you forgetting about Barbed Shot, Multi-shot, Concussive Shot, and Counter Shot? We can even have Chimaera Shot and Barrage talented. While I agree that BM does most of it’s damage from the pet, saying that BM uses a ranged weapon as a stat stick goes too far. The ranged weapon and abilities are what allow BM to stay 40 yards away from the target instead of having to be in the target’s face to do damage. It also allows BM to be the ONLY fully mobile ranged spec in the game.
Darkeforge, I have to tell the truth. This is a new account for me. My old account hasn’t been played since Pandaren and had a level 80 hunter, rogue and mage.
If I want to melee, then I play a warrior. I rolled a hunter in early TBC because of GUNS, not spears or polearms. This is the character I play to shoot guns.
My opinion is that if this is how they did it, then they should add another ranged spec to hunter, or make an entirely new ranger based class.
Edit: also, not to pass judgement on melee survival. It could be really fun but I don’t care. Druids could be really fun too. I bet they could make rogues really fun with two pistols. But that’s besides the point.
Sure BM shoots guns/bows, but 80 pct of the damage is from the pet. The bow/gun damage is negligible. MM is the only spec, and right now it is pretty bad in PvP. That’s the main reason I’m complaining is the PvP. I mean, if they wanted to make survival for beginners by making it melee, then make it a PvE spec.
Whether it’s fair for other classes or not, adding a 4th and ranged spec is the best way to appease RSV fans, and to add variety and flavor to Hunters.
Yep. They have a beast master playstyle. A melee spear playstyle. A sniper playstyle.
Now give us a shotgun trapper playstyle.
Edit: It would be interesting if they could just split it into two separate classes. BM and melee SV go together, kinda like a paleo diet hunter of some kind. Heck they can even make BM melee. Then give us a ranger with old style SV and MM, true hunter.
There’s reason people don’t play SV at all and that’s because they want to play ranged, not melee. Granted, Melee’s fun to play, but people have it mentally that Hunters are ranged, not melee. Plus besides appeasing RSV, it can be something else fun to play.
It’s actually surprising that Blizzard got away with making a melee hunter spec. Where did all the Legolas fanboys go? Plus melee hunters were an actual joke / meme back in TBC, WoTLK.
The fact that they did this is both funny and frustrating at the same time. Like, go ruin rogues or something lmfao.
