I played on Beta and Vanilla and that was truly the golden age. I can’t wait for vanilla server to come live. Is there any official date? Also, is there a way to play it right now? On test server or something?
Also, do we know if a server will be a single community like before? Or will there be instant queue cross server like today that totally killed social interaction?
Nope. When they announce it it should be stickied here in these forums.
No way to play it at the moment. There is no beta yet.
There will be no cross server stuff; at least not out in the world. We might get cross realm BGs, but not sure yet. They haven’t addressed that issue directly yet.
For the latest news I’d recommend checking these forums daily. We usually get blue posts around this time of day on weekdays if there is one.
Dealloc answered it but I’d add that since they keep stressing BG’s will be 1.12 BG’s then it’s pretty much given that PvP will be cross realm.
Later on, when they need to merge servers, they’ll probably just expand cross realm to everywhere to avoid the stigma of officially having to “merge servers”.
I don’t know if I would settle on that yet. The purpose of CRBGs came out over time. At launch, cross realm shouldn’t be useful. As populations start to normalize I would expect Blizzard to address the need.
go to youtube and type in “recreating history blizzcon”, should be about 45min long. they go into detail about what they’re working on and their philosophy. Then read the stickies at the top of the classic forums page, and then you’ll know as much as everyone else
They have to pick a value to start with, if for no other reason than to assign names we can use.
Their prognostication is hopefully better than ours though, and they’ll provide a good amount of servers to the expected load, with a willingness to add more if they see it’ll be required post tourist wave.
There’s a few options available to them. First off they can offer up an open beta to get an baseline. Then they can have hundreds of realms named and read, only kept hidden until needed.
I agree. But scaling up too late will also damage the server populations. They need to be watching the 10+ conversions and the 20+ conversions closely and adding servers if those values are far higher than they expected. Then new players get diverted to new servers and a server will hopefully trickle down its starters until they aren’t increasing pop still.
Based on their experiences with the Free Trial, 20+ is a hard barrier for a lot, and with Vanilla, I’d suggest 10+ is too, from the increased difficulty. Those key points are early enough to watch, and the sharding ends around that time based on what they’ve said.
That’s a solid point to watch. I do expect to see some dropping out in the early teens. More so in the mid 20’s early 30’s.
I also expect to see a health amount of rerolls. Blame the class not the vanilla design types will roll another class. Which will stall the population decline.
2 weeks, maybe 3, and we will see how things will start to settle.
