Just Bought HP Envy Model #: 15M-EE0013DX With AMD 4500u In It

Re-downloading World of Warcraft as we speak so I haven’t gotten to use it yet. I will say that this laptop is very, very snappy and quick on everything you do. It’s coupled with an SSD and 8GB of memory. I got it on sale for $630 last week before they raised the price. Only two issues, fan is loud but moves a lot of air under load and the sound crackles when you first start it up until it download Bang & Olufsen drivers once you’re loaded into Windows for the first time. Also, there is a BIOS update that fixes a wireless disconnection issue. Also the Red/Orange color is slightly off. Red looks slightly like orange depending on the shade. Could possibly fix that with a color adjustment in Windows, not sure.

My previous model was M6-AR004DX which had 8GB memory, 1GB mechanical HDD and FX-9800P. I’ve recently played World of Warcraft with it the last few days and it runs pretty good on Quality 3/4 at about 30 FPS. This laptop doesn’t seem like it has a good fan so it heats up a lot while playing unfortunately.

I’ll write another reply to this post once I play on my new laptop for a couple of days and let you know how well it runs and if I’m able to bump up the Quality more (I’m sure I can).

Other than that the only other suggestion I have if you’re gaming on a laptop; get a laptop cooler! There’s quite a few on Amazon. I actually have one coming tomorrow. It’s the havit HV-F2056 on Amazon.

Anyways. I thought I’d share my experience with AMD’s new laptop CPUs. Didn’t seem like there were any youtube videos showing it off. I probably won’t do one myself but at least you’ll see what Quality I can get up to and what FPS I’ll be at.

I’ll probably just start from Quality 1 to Max and take FPS measurements. I think when it comes to budget laptops, the 4500u is where it’s at from all the youtube videos that have come out about it. There are laptops with the 4700u/4800u and better ones than that just more pricier.

The HP laptop looks aesthetically pleasing. Thin and neutral color.

Though if you’re looking for a laptop to game on why not something like this?

Downside to this laptop is the “gamer” look.

~Edit: Format

That’s actually not a bad deal. Not a fan of nVidia though but that laptop is priced very reasonable. So I did a test standing near the gate outside of Orgrimmar/inside near the first few quest npcs looking forward to Azshara:

Quality 1: 90-100 FPS
Quality 2: 90-100 FPS
Quality 3: 90-100 FPS
Quality 4: 70-75 FPS
Quality 5: 45-50 FPS
Quality 6: 40-45 FPS
Quality 7: 35-40 FPS
Quality 8: 30-35 FPS (This is what I settled on for now)
Quality 9: 25-30 FPS
Quality 10: 20-25 FPS

CMAA enabled. 1920x1080 100% Resolution Scale.

So far it is pretty nice even on Quality 8 but if you want that 60 FPS experience (if you have a 60Hz laptop monitor) it seems Quality 4/5 is where you’d want to be. The laptop you mentioned above though would probably put out more FPS. Not sure how much more.

I might try 720p resolution tomorrow and see how that goes, perhaps I can squeeze into Quality 6 with 60 FPS.

Nice! That’s a nice looking laptop for that price. Do you plan to make use of its 2-in-1 functionality? I don’t think anybdy I’ve ever seen toting 2-in-1’s ever uses tablet mode.

Small gripe but it really feels like fan loudness shouldn’t be a problem on anything but the $200 bargain bin Walmart laptops. Manufacturers certainly know how to make these things quiet and high performance, so I can only guess it’s an issue of margins and saving a couple of cents per unit or something.

I have never really used the Tablet mode on my first 2 in 1. They both have touchscreens obviously and it could be beneficial I guess if you’re watching a movie, playing Hearthstone and a few other games which just require easy clicking. I honestly disable the touchscreen altogether in Device Manager. It’s not really a feature I personally need but I’m sure there’s some out there who use it a lot.

The loudness of the fan under load doesn’t bother me since I wear headphones but you can definitely hear it if you were to take this and put it under load in a library/class room setting but maybe a lot of people’s laptops are somewhat noisy when under load anyways.

Quick Update: Since I got the laptop cooler I was able to bump it up to Quality 9 on 1080p. I haven’t tried to see what 720p is like yet. Will add that sometime this weekend. I get between 30-45 fps depending on the area I’m in. I’m really happy with this laptop though I’m sure there may have been slightly better options but I did get it for $630

The 4700u maintained nice 60 fps+ with level 5 settings in almost every scenario questing and dungeons for me.
