Just an idea; what if stats on gear were multiplicative?

A weapon from the start of this very expansion has less than half the DPS of a weapon from the last raid; that just feels kind of insane. And we’re back to items with 30k+ on a stat on a single item.

Well, this may not do anything about the weapon damage portion, but what if you just had each stat point worth an increasing amount? Even if you still had the same difference in power, it would be nice to get back to items in the double-digits.

My two cents.

No. Every last bit of no. And then more.

Gear is already exponential. This would make that problem so, SO much worse.

they keep all stats valuable by giving them diminishing returns on a curve the more of them you have, so people do not just stack the one stat that initially scales best for them.

they would have to completely rework how they have and display itemization for this to be comprehensible to the user for what I think would be very small benefit of “number looks less silly”.

There’s no way I could see it getting worse than it is now.

A decent necklace from early in TWW has around 10k stam, a neck from the new raid is like 30k. That is insane power creep.

That power creep allows them to deliver a lot of gear that’s of varying use within an item level but almost always inferior to something of a lower item level regardless of what spec you have, enabling diversity of builds and smoothing out relative advantages of gearing up off-specs vs. second characters without having every person needing a sim to tell if an item is good for them or not.

People sim more than ever, but it’s because it’s easier to do so more than ever; we don’t have wildly counterintuitive gearing options like was common in the early years of the game.

I think ‘number look silly’ is an acceptable tradeoff.

Eh, I would argue the power creep just ensures you have to wear the newest gear, which has the effect of making everything prior to the current season completely irrelevant.

I mean, consider this; if you were head-to-toe MYTHIC raid gear from Season 1, that wouldn’t even be enough for you to queue for LFR in Season 3 of the same expansion.

There’s no world in which that makes sense.

As someone who took a break heavily geared at the end of S1 and came back to the start of S3… that didn’t bother me at all? I still had an easier time going through those quests than I did with my fresh 80.

What if you had an addon to make the numbers seem smaller, so the early necklace read 1 stam, and the new neck read 3 stam. Would that seem better?

I used to dislike that the neck in from the first patch level of the expac would be say 10k stam, but then if you come back a couple patches later, even though you were doing M+ 10 keys where you got that neck, you don’t even have high enough ilvl to run heroic dungeons.

That doesn’t bother me much now though.
