If you play on leveling though the human or dorf areas run right outside of Stormwind and pick up a wolf.
If you plan on leveling though Kalimdor (Elf area) run though darnassus and turn right and pick up one of the cats.
Both pets are low level ferocity pets, so you have leech. The cat will ultimately be the better pet for tanking die to its special until you hit the 50s and can get to ungoro. At level 68 get a corehound or clefthoof for improved tanking and exotic petness.
Ferocity pets are the best solo pets due to leech, with leech if you still manage to die, please re-roll as you will give even huntards a bad name.
