Just a Reminder to the DEVS..Soul Leech and Affliction

That Affliction should be the tankiest of all the casters and Warlock specs. Soul Leech needs to be modified for that spec to absorb more when Affliction specc’ed. Makes no sense at all that the single slowest DPS class in game is also pathetically weak in the survival department.

Just looked at Soul Leech for Affliction AND Destro. Both work of 8% damage done. How does that make sense to anyone given Afflictions lack of real bust? Soul Leech will NOT work like this for Affliction the way it does for Destro.

It needs to be adjusted for a higher percentage based on when you are in Affliction spec. Right I have SOOOOOO much more survivability when playing Destro…that should NOT be the case folks.

Right now, Mages are tankier than affliction Warlocks. Is that your vision for this spec?

False premise: There is no reason why affliction should have that over any other spec or even class.

Affliction sucks I 100% agree, but I would argue that ALL dot-based specs need an overall massive overhaul to better incentivize and play. Burst damage is always going to be superior because of the front-loaded effect. Dot-specs, I would argue, need to front load their damage more (say doing like 75-90% of their damage on the first 50% of the dot duration) and maybe all have a way to apply their entire slew of dots on adds without talents.

I must strongly disagree with you here. There is NO other DOT “BASED” spec in the game, period. Other specs may have DOTs contribute to their over all damage, but DOTs ARE what affliction does. No other class in the game has the ramp up time that Affliction does. No other class in the game has the lack of burst that Affliction does. No other class in the game has the mobility issues that all Warlocks have, unless you want to drain your own life in the process. Ive played every class in this game except for Paladin, and Im telling you as a matter of LOGIC, that you cannot have a slow, ramp up damage class with less toughness and survivability than a high burst class. Thats not even reasonable.

Affliction needs Soul Leech adjusted when in that spec. I should not be “tougher” in destro spec than Affliction. That makes zero sense.

In the past, affliction has had burst damage.

Plus shadow priests and balance druids are a thing (feral druids too but are melee). Shadow priests also take a whole hell of a lot more effort to actually play than affliction does.

I 100% agree affliction is a garbage tier spec, but again, the reason for this has more to do with the fact that dots are an inherently weaker method of damage than burst damage is. If a dot takes 30 seconds to do its payload and a burst class can do that in 15-20, even if you consider it has 10 seconds of downtime, that 15-20 seconds gives them 100% of their payout where you always are reliant on having the full duration.

The problem is affliction’s terrible ramp and the lack of a way to consume dots for damage. This doesn’t mean they deserve to be inherently tankier…they need better ways to control their damage output and for dots, across the board, to be a stronger option than burst damage. You’re basically trying to heal Superman whose got kryptonite embedded in his body by just getting him more sunlight…fix the core problem first and foremost. Affliction doesn’t need to be tankier…it needs to not be solely reliant on the inferior method of damage dealing.

Imagine a warlock complaining about not being tanky…. Lol

Feral is pretty close my friend, and they feel your pain of hurting as well.

Disagree. Demo literally had a glyph that let them tank at one point.

Malefic is the vast majority of affliction’s damage, and it’s not a DoT, but nice try.

Shadow and Feral are just as much a DoT spec as Affliction.

They had to nerf it back in… legion because some folks went crazy immortal in stormwind dotting everything and never dying.

And it shouldn’t be. Affliction Never had stupid gimmicks like MR. Please stop acting MR is something that isn’t recent. When did you start playing? BFA?

The reason MR exists is because of the problems you mentioned. There needs to be some damage that you can actually squeeze out instantly by having dots rolling. You want every single damaging spell to be a dot? That would be either extremely overpowered or supremely awful in keys.

No it doesn’t. The Legion and Pandaria versions were fine. We had haunt and drain soul. MR wasn’t needed and has only hurt the class and it’s HISTORICAL class fantasy and play style.

Why should we adhere to the past?

They, in typical blizzard fashion, nerfed it way too much, for Affliction. Doesn’t make sense that the glass cannon spec has better survivability than the slow, ramp up dot spec?

heres a video if you want to enjoy the madness

Affliction used to be so fun :frowning: it’s got to be one of the worst specs to play now. It’s just so not fun.

I mean the core issue with affliction is the fact that you are heavily limited in your speed to ramp. Simply put affliction suffers from the issue of having too many dots. With it taking essentially 10 seconds at a time to start a full ramp from zero to all dots. With dot management being a whole other issue, that even pandemic doesn’t solve well enough. Given if you want less dots then you have to talent into it, yet the more you run the more single target damage that you do, yet it’s at the cost of having an absurdly long ramp. What they need to do is add an ability with a decently long CD attached. To where it applies all your dots for their full duration. So that you can go into your rotation off the bat, over dotting things up to only have them already about dead or dead when you would start your malefic rapture spam.

That’s the crux of the issue and why soul leech is worse for affliction, in comparison to demonology or destruction. Both specs offer more DPS in a shorter time spam, over affliction that suffers from the issue of taking way too long to ramp. Which in turn makes for a both very punishing spec to play. Along with meaning DPS wise it tends to fall short due to things dying before you can get a full ramp up and running.

I think it is more of a tuning thing, really. If you look at percentage of damage dealt by dots for any of the dot based specs this expansion, it is absurdly low. I believe it is to make stacking dot classes less valuable in certain raid encounters, but it has weird implications elsewhere. As somebody stated above, affliction top damage is no longer a dot, neither is feral.

Real talk, the current class design team has absolutely no clue what class identity or balance are.

Like, it’s hilariously ridiculous that plate wearing DPS are now squishier than cloth wearing ranged classes…Mages aren’t just tankier than Affliction Warlocks.
