Jumping in combat

Hello

So I am aware that direction and distance is important in PvP. If someone were to get behind me in combat it would be bad news. I have had only a handful of PvP encounters so far and the movement from side to side or running past me to get behind me or out of my hit range has been notable. But does jumping have a purpose? Folks have seemed to hop about along with the movement. Just incase there was a spacing trick using jumps I didn’t know about.

Thanks

Jumping lets you maintain movement direction while still being able to face the target.

A hunter can shoot you while running away if they jump and cast.

it doesnt really do too much i dont think but i guess what Qpon said is true. so i guess there is some motive behind it but it isnt a game changer imo. you need to rotate well when someone gets behind you or tries to move side to side. rotation is key and throw some slows on em after u get jumped on. or if necessary just fear them off you and regroup. just my opinion. gl pal

I think it could also be a psyche thing to mess with whoever youre fighting, it also feels a lot better to keep moving while fighting, standing still doesnt really feel right (from a melee perspective) and i think maintaining mobility in a fight is important. It can also help with messing with people’s casting if theyre not good at following you with camera movement.

I know for a fact that A D spamming in pvp is a meme and makes me angry, yet i do it as well because I’m sure it has the same effect going the other way.

It’s key on a hunter. You run away and jump and while you’re in the air, spin 180 and concussive shot, then spin the other 180 and land running the same direction you were going.

This works with any instant cast. Shaman using frost shock, Warlock using instant DoTs, or deathcoil, priest SW:P, etc…

You can also jump through a target in melee range and 180 spin so you’re facing their back when you land.

It’s a crucial skill to master for PvP, but good for kiting PvE too.

These pretty much.

LOL undead mage

Our instant cast dots are omnidirectional. We don’t have to face you to use them.

A warlock can dot you while running away regardless because instant cast dots don’t require you to be facing your target.

OP it’s the same reason people spam their “A and D” keys

It’s so they can feel like they’re better / doing something while pressing the same key over and over again lol (arcane explosion)

Funny the warlock knocking the guy playing a UD mage. Warlock is the undisputed most powerful PvP class in classic wow.

Had a feeling that example was going to come back to bite me. Been a while since I played that OP class.

Ahh cool. Thanks so much guys. So as a warrior I wouldn’t really need to jump and just following direction is fine.

Thanks again.

sometimes i like to do a 360 spin before landing a killing swing as a meme.

I hope it translates to you guys as just havin fun while fighting eachother lol.

Still plenty reasons to do it as a warrior. Jump + hamstring to kite while running away. Jump and turn to intercept to make sure you get to minimum range.

It’s definitely a skill you want to learn.

I like to do 720 jump shadowbolts when nightfall procs.

I also routinely do jumping trick shot deathcoils and shadowburns.

For me, jumping helps keep my timing down in rhythm. When i need to lay off and not attack it just feel awkward not to press a button.

What everyone else said. Also, depending on how your keybinds are set up, sometimes I can jump while moving and reach a difficult key that requires hand adjustment before landing, thus allowing me to use that ability on the move if I need to.

Imo, some tanks need to get better at this. I see far too many who are slow to re-position a boss, for example, because they think you have to face the target all the time to keep building threat. You don’t. Exposing your back increases damage taken, but as long as that’s not an issue, you can move around much faster if you’re jump-spin-ability every GCD rather than just slowly backing up.

If you’re not jumping you’re losing.

But yeah like others have said it helps you to continue in the same direction while also being able to land attacks.

So on my Mage I can be running to gain distance, jump and face you for a Fire Blast/Cone of Cold and turn back in the same direction without losing any distance.

Arcane explosion has a bigger aoe if you cast while jumping.

Warriors can jump around and time their weapon swing timers to get back in melee range, really good for a slow 2h wep.
