Issue:
I go to the character screen to login on a character and receive the message: “A character with that name already exists”.
Anyone having this issue as well? Is there a fix? I’ve tried resetting the UI but that didn’t help.

This has been happening to me periodically over the last few weeks as well.
Seems to happen more often when you try to log in and get booted immediately (as if the login in didn’t complete properly) and then try to log in after being booted.
This is happening to me as well. I was logged on earlier with a character in the Blasted Lands. I attempted to Hearth, and after casting the spell my hearthstone went on a 1hr cooldown, but I was never teleported anywhere. I tried Teleport:Moonglade, which also didn’t move me anywhere. I logged out of the game, but now when I try to log that character back in, it tells me “A character with that name already exists.”
Interestingly, if I log into the game with a different character on the same account, I can /who my other character and it shows it online in the Blasted Lands still. However, the guild roster does not show this character.
Very annoying, I hope it’s fixed soon.

same issue here
bumping this post, having the same issue on Grobbulus and I tried the recommended troubleshooting.
Yeah its impossible to submit a ticket through their troubleshooting for this. Normally if this occurs your character would eventually time out but this seems connected to the issues they had earlier today.
me and several others from my guild have the same problem.

I have this problem too. Can’t log in at all to 1 character. When I go on an alt and /who the character that I can’t log into, it shows him online still.

Seems to be an issue with all characters that were logged in when the server issues happened. Can we please get this fixed!

same here have several toons involved after the glitch as couldn’t log into the 44 that was bugged out from game issue while loading into a battle ground from stormwind in classic, l was able to log in and submit a bug but then my 60 healer and dps were no longer able to log in, all 2 act like they are going to load in but it just takes me back to character selection screen and tells me that a character with that name already exists, would Blizz please fix the servers as this is more than just one server, my toons are on myzreal that are having the issues, Iceyprincess, Rodeo and maegia, also a guildie that is stuff even offline as showing online but no where by the name of Payorth

Unable to play for the last 4 hours on my main, I even found his body in Gnomer, I just want him to log off : (.
Same issue here. I can also see the character showing online with /who but it doesn’t show up as online in the Guild tab.
