Joining partially completed LFR groups

So just wondering if this is a bug or working as intended?

I joined LFR Ephemeral Plains yesterday and Vigilant Guardian was already killed. I have a lot of alts and was running them thru LFR and I know a lot of these groups will be prefilled with new players and some will leave or be kicked and the group will need replacements. So I stay and kill the last 3 bosses and figured I will requeue today and kill the first boss.

What I’m sick of, is wasting an hour in queue as a dps to get into a group that doesn’t have any bosses alive that I need and thereby I won’t get any loot.

So today I log in and queue for LFR Ephemeral Plains and the only boss left alive is Holandrus, the last boss. So I either stay and help kill the boss which could mean a couple more hours if the group sucks bad or I take a 30 minute desertion buff for leaving and then another hour waiting in queue…either way I am still going to have the hour waiting in queue because I am dps.

So either give me an option to only join fresh groups, or stop putting me into groups that don’t have any bosses alive I need. I mean if I only need the first boss because the group yesterday already killed it why would the LFR system put me into a group where that boss had already been killed and instead put me into a group with only the last boss?

I can understand this might mean some fail groups wont be able to kill all the bosses if not enough people queue for the ones that were missed, or maybe you need to come up wtih a better queue system where someone who stays and helps kill bosses they don’t need get queue credit and put in front of the queue the next time instead of waiting for an hour and then finding out AGAIN that the one boss they need is already dead.

This has just been getting worse and worse lately, having run all these LFRs on all of my alts it seems to be going downhill with the requeues. I normally queue as a healer or tank on classes that can but on my caster only classes there is no way around this hr long queues, 30 minute desertion and another hour long queue to leave if no bosses I need are alive still…it is BS.

For this sort of suggestion, you’ll want to move the post to either the General Discussion forums or perhaps the Dungeons, Raids and Scenarios forum.

The CS forum is not visited by those who make these sorts of decisions.

As for how the system currently works, if you complete a run the system tries its best to put you into a fresh instance but it’s not guaranteed.

That said, you can always start your own group too. That’s always an option!

Here’s what a blue posted on the matter in another thread.

One suggestion might be to join as a group. Especially if you can get someone to join as tank or healing. You would more likely get a fresh group. It would just depend on what roles drop or are removed from the partially completed groups.

Unfortunately LFR is built in such a way that it will always seek to stay at the full group size, which is 25 players for it. Which means you are far more likely to join an in progress one than a fresh one as in progress groups with empty slots will be placed ahead of any potential fresh ones. This is mainly for dps as there can only be 2 tanks and 5-6 healers at any point. So the rest is filled up by dps (which is like 17 spots) However if you stay for an already in progress group, you have a higher chance of getting a fresh one the next time you queue for that wing iirc.

It would be nice if the game provided you an option to say “only join groups with bosses I need unkilled” or something though… joining an in-progress group isn’t so bad, but not being able to finish the bosses you haven’t gotten yet would have to be frustrating.

Alternatively, if you could leave without penalty on bosses you’ve already killed, that would give you the choice of at least opening up the spot for someone who needs it. For DPS, at least, I’m sure there’s plenty of people in the queue who could fill the spot. Not so much for Tanks/Healers probably.

how do you start your own LFR group?

same probelms iam having this expansion long 20-30 min que then i get in dugeons when folks are on the last boss, its just folks keep leaving and being replaced and you have a lfr group spending 2-3 hours on one final boss. I leave group to que up again and it keeps happening lfr raids that most of the bosses are killed except the last one.

If people didn’t get put into half completed groups, how would you ever finish a raid if someone left?

we should still have the option to “wait” for a fresh group instead of wasting our time queuing twice. I mean for a tank/heals it isn’t a problem as my queues on my tank/heal alts is usually less than 15 to 20 minutes max.

On my DPS I can be in queue for well over an hour or two depending on the time of day and day of the week (faster and more queues on alts that run on Tuesday/Wednesday). But to sit in queue for an hour to get a group that is on the last boss, or to have already killed the last boss and only need the first 2 or 3 and get a queue pop which is on the last boss which I already killed? Sorry that is just stupid programming and needs fixed.

There should be an option to queue as I see fit, like the group finder allows me to look for normal/heroic groups which have done specific bosses…LFR should be the same way, option to queue fresh or for specific bosses.

there will be people who only need certain bosses as well, the queue system should allow you to put down when you only need certain bosses if you don’t feel like redoing old bosses and will cut down on people joining for only 1 or 2 bosses because they left or got kicked out of previous groups.

No, you shouldn’t. You’re only thinking of yourself, and being very short sighted about it. As groups lose people from boss to boss, how would you expect them to finish their wing without bringing new people in from the queue? How do you expect to finish your fresh runs without new people coming in to replace the people you’ve lost?

What happens is people end up languishing, sometimes for hours, waiting for replacements because everyone is waiting for a fresh run to pop. If they can’t wait hours, they’re forced to quit, requeue again, rekill the bosses they already did and hope the group stays together this time or face the exact same thing again. This isn’t speculation. It is what happened during Dragonsoul, when the system told you how many bosses were left when the queue popped.

You having to queue twice to clear a wing is a small price to pay to avoid the situation I described. If you want to be part of the LFR community then you need to be prepared to help the community finish their in progress runs so that they will help you with yours. If you aren’t willing then you shouldn’t do LFR.

Sure, they can add this, but don’t complain when someone drops out of your group, and you’re sitting there for hours because everything else clicked “fresh group” option.

Only thinking of myself? No, that is the person who left after the first boss because they are running a bunch of alts and just want the single boss for the weekly vault loot.

I don’t have this issue on my tanks/healers but my dps…I have to sit around for hours sometimes in queue doing random quests while waiting…to find that several bosses are already dead…and I’m going to have to wait in queue again for hours.

I say hours, because on some days during the time I play there are not a lot of players at least not tanks/heals and so it can be over an hour or two queue for some raids.
