I’m trying to join General Chat I’ve typed /1 and /join general chat and /join general and nothing pops up. I got to Settings > Channels > all the channels are grayed out but they’re all selected as some people suggested. So what’s wrong with it?
Maybe try leaving the channels and rejoining them? Can’t think of any reason General Chat would be greyed out.
Did your sub run out? Characters on accounts whose subs have ran out can still log in but they gain the starter edition restrictions. I’m not super familiar with those restrictions, but maybe it could be something to do with that?

But you said they show up in settings > channels, yes? That means you’re in them. They’re not on the list at all if you’re not in them. The checkbox is just a toggle to display it or not.
Leave them the same way you tried to join them.
/leave general
I’m not though. when i try getting into them it won’t do it
Is it possible you’ve been silenced for any reason? Check your email and see if you received a msg from Blizzard.
Thing is, you can still read chat when silenced. I’ve been silenced before.

Like I said I’m not in it at all. I can neither say anything nor see. not sure what’s up with it. I know I’m not silenced though
Ah, never had the displeasure of being silenced.
But I’m hardly ever in /1 or /2 longer than to toss out a couple guild recruitment macros then I’m off on my way to parts elsewhere.
I see it in World in Chat Channels but they’re grayed out

If i remember right… I had this happen to me once before, my general, trade, etc were all missing, only could whisper friends, etc…
i forgot exactly what the solution was, but i had renamed my WTF folder, so wow could just generate a new one, and noticed it was working again, then just slowly put stuff back into the wtf folder (i.e. addons, and preferences, etc) until i figured out which file was the culprit.
If i had to take a guess as to which file was the culprit, it’s probably the config file that contains the chat channels you’re joined to, but this was a couple years ago so i don’t remember exactly.
So try that… backup/rename your WTF folder

Just to throw some info out:
Under normal circumstances, channels are only greyed out if you are joined to them but not in an area where you can access that channel. For example, Trade Chat is grey to me right now because I’m standing outside CoS, rather than standing in Boralus.
Unless it’s something to do with an expired sub that I was mentioning earlier, it definitely could be a bug / corrupted file or whatever. And I don’t really think it’s the sub thing, I think you can still see chat as a trial so it shouldn’t be grey for that reason.
