Only happened a few times when I was alt gearing.
I honestly don’t know how to react when this happens. Timing an 8 is a massive up for the Io score but that wasn’t what I agreed to when I join a 7.
lmao.

Just say “Hey this was advertised as a 7”, and ask them to lower it. If they don’t, and you don’t feel like doing 8/9, leave group.
Tempted to a few times.
Only real risk at that point was an X amount of friends in that group who’d report me for not playing along.
lmao.
Whats the difference?
Same affixes and scaling not really significant yet.
7-9 keys are effectively the same in difficulty and the easy gilded track farm levels.
6 is special case as its the only no negative affix, but hero gear level, so its for gear farm.
Below m0-m5 is again effectively the same in difficutly, champion gear.
10-11s are myth track weekly keys; difference is a bit bigger, but still not that important.
This is why ppl often dont even realize its a bit higher.
But if you joined for something and it is not that, then it would be understandable if you would leave ofc.
I’ve done it a couple times, mostly because I just forgot to drop the key.
I generally don’t think it’s malicious when it happens. 9s aren’t that much harder and drop way more gilded crests.
Look im not gonna analyze it too much, but, the difference in difficulty between a 7 and an 8 does make wipes more frequent. I dont know what it is about an 8 but dang, sometimes, for what is supposed to be an easy 8 turns into bloodbath city.
Sometimes it’s a genuine mistake
That’s not how that works. A few reports aren’t suddenly going to get you punished.
The ban thing is for serial leavers who have a clear pattern of leaving.
I’ve more than once put my key in by accident when playing with a friend’s alt and instead of doing that 8, we did a 10. I asked folks if they wanted to leave but people were just happy to get a 10 vault haha.
I had a friend tell me this. The reason you run it on an 8 instead of a 7 is in case the run fails, you still have a 7 key.
They need to stop keys from going down and then they’d happily lower it to a 7
I guess you dont remember when people used to join your group and put their key in lol
I saw a youtube video of people who do this on purpose, they find some noob with a low Ilvl who thinks they are joining a +2 which turns out to be a +8 and they carry him through it, I guess its “Reverse Griefing” and fun to watch.
I had this happen once, it was listed as a 12 but actually a 13 lol. It was a mistake tho.
I think people just forget, like maybe they meant to delevel it but then had to go to the bathroom and forgot. Or they didn’t realize the 6 they did was a 2/3 chest and they don’t have a 7
Seen some of those, and the people they napped turns out to be a really good player who is pushing their limits and was just being held back by being a DPS
When you initiate group finder, it automatically puts the key level in there for you though lol
I wonder if they are doing it on purpose, because 8/9 takes much longer to fill. In that case I think they should look at squishing those levels (making 8 the new 10)
Could be. 3-4-5 and 8-9 are the dead key ranges
Kinda makes me feel like there’s no reason M+ needs to be this incrementally scaling system. People tend to hopscotch to thresholds. So maybe at the start of a season less-confident players (especially in S1 starting from scratch) will farm +2s to get a baseline set of decent new-season gear.
Then the next step is +6, because it’s Hero Gear, and there’s no real benefit to gearing between +2 and +6 because it’s just steps of the same track the +2s gave them.
And if you’re doing 6s, you can do 7s, so it’s really just down to which Crest you’re looking for while you farm Hero Gear.
Then the next step is +10, for the Myth Vault.
And everything beyond that is achievement / bragging rights bait.
Consolidate that crap.
Dungeon Difficulties will be as follows:
Normal
Heroic
Mythic (vet track - weathered crests)
Mythic 2 (champ track - carved crests)
Mythic 3 (hero track - runed crests)
Mythic 4 (myth track vault - gilded crests)
Then start the standard infinite scaling for the sake of pushing / events / further achievements. If people would cry about not being able to get gilded crests for doing content that barely drops hero track, fine, bump all the crests up by 1 - Though I do think it’s unnecessary personally.
No one cares about 3, 4, 5, 8, or 9, and no one would care about 6 if hero track started at 7 (or the other way around – if gilded started at 6).
I guess maybe what this boils down to is that Blizzard already consolidated keys, so now the thresholds are so close together that they may as well consolidate it again so people can just move one level up to the next threshold. It’d be easier to make and find groups that way anyway.
If they never dropped effectively the first 10 levels of M+ this wouldn’t be as much of an issue, because the thresholds would be separated a lot more. But they did, so this is where we’re at.
