John Hight Blizzcon 2019 Lore Info

Interview with John Hight. Here’s some lore bits I could transcribe:

"This is- I mean- this has actually been part of her plan all along. Certainly in the events in Legion where souls stopped going to the rest of Shadowlands- to the rest of the Covenenats, and they were all going into the Maw. And the Maw is the place where the souls that cannot be redeemed go. And so basically have this shortage of souls going to the rest of the Shadowlands- they're all piling into the Maw- Sylvanas is part of this master plan, and she's going to use that power."

“She does have the long game, and she really does want to break the cycle of life and death, and that’s a bigger objective for her than petty revenge at this point.”

“Who’s to say she can’t create more [Val’kyr]? I mean she basically has the Kyrian at her disposal, and Odyn was able to, by sacrificing a single eye, create the power of the Val’kyr.”

“We’ve had some characters that have passed and have very vague memories of the Shadowlands. If you ended up being part of Ardenweald and in the Fae part of their whole afterlife is reincarnation or resurrection. So some of the characters that went through that process are going to have memories. But not deep ones.”

“Obviously Sylvanas has been there. She’s really been the first to go and come back. She’s technically the first Maw Walker. And we get to be the next [Maw Walker].”

So basically devaluing 8.1 even more?

I really don’t know what to say anymore…

Literally this. Our supposed “vengeance” for Teldrassil is now pointless because she can just make more.

God I hate this character so much…

Alternatively being in the Shadowlands and wokring with The Jailer has given her this ability.

The point was that the Night Elves were supposed to be happy with taking out one of her get out of hell-jail cards. Which is now pointless because she has an infinite supply.

I am a nelf and I’ll get my justice when I loot her in 9.3 or whatever

Why bring this up if it’s not going to happen?

More importantly, if she dies she goes to the Maw but she’s a Maw Walker and working with the Jailer that runs the Maw.

How does this not make her effectively immortal?

you can delete souls, in wow, the legion did that, what if we do that, maybe if she dies in the shadowlands, she gets erased

We will never get to kill her, you are really naive if you think so.

Can you stop being so salty? Blizz doesnt owe you anything and we ARE gonna kill her this xpac guaranteed.

I’m not going to stop until something positive happens to the night elves. Something.

Who says that? Everything is being set up for a redemption arc in case you haven’t followed through the news.

I’m really tired of explaining it again, but I’ll make a short summary:

  • No Power on Azeroth is stronger than Sylvanas now, she could single handedly destroy the horde and the alliance combined
  • Writers are obsessed with Nathanos and Sylvanas, see in 8.1 how Nathanos didn’t die even though there would’ve never been a better moment for a character like him to die
  • she will “set us all free”
  • she has a plan to save the universe
  • devs said she won’t die
  • If they kill her off they can’t make a 4th expansion cinematic of Sylvanas in a row
  • and lastly, killing her off would be satisfying for Night Elf players and we all know that’s not allowed.

Is that enough?

i truly dont think these are good things for the rest of us, there is no way someone literally feeding souls to the “hungering darkness” is going to “set us all free” by anyway other than killing us all

Your not explaining anything but sharing your bitterness and cynical view on how Blizzard will further handle the night elf story. And it’s fairly obvious that the worst way it could be handled would be for Sylvanas to get a redmeption and thus your treating your theory born of scorn as fact.

Furthermore some of your points make no sense case in point:

There has been nothing to suggest this ever.

I keep seeing this thrown around and no one has ever back it up with a source. And even if their was they could have easily been talking in the context of her surviving Battle for Azeroth.

A revenge patch in which we achieved absolutely nothing.

  • We didn’t kill Nathanos
  • We killed 1 Val’kyr which turned out pointless because Sylvanas has infinite
  • We didn’t reconquer lands
  • We lost more people and Sylvanas raised undead

Imagine a revenge patch for the night elves where they lose instead of getting their revenge, and then months later they get told they got their revenge in said patch. How do you want me to be optimistic at this point?

It’s mostly the writers absolute and unhealthy obsession with Sylvanas and Nathanos, we’ve seen how they are immune to death in 8.1.

Bro share her drugs indeed. Next thing you’re gonna say Thanos was right.

I don’t expect you to be optimistic and I understand why you are bitter about what Blizzard has done to the night elves. I just want you to stop taking that bitterness and screaming in the forums that Sylvanas is going be Kerrigan/Illidan 2.0 and get redeemed because it does nothing but promote a false narrative.

On a side note Blizzard revealed on the Q&A that the Alliance won both warfronts.

Thanos wasn’t an Avenger that turned bad though. I really have a difficult time believing they would turn Sylvanas into a crazy universe ending villain after how poorly received Garrosh was. She’s pretty much Kael’thas now.

But they clearly don’t care how much we dislike it. They’re hell-bent on this arc and they will retcon and twist the entire universe around it.

I wouldn’t be surprised if they’ve completely destroyed the IP by the end of Shadowlands.
