Jewelcrafting is a destroyed profession

Day 1 of new content the gems were selling for something like 2-3k then they started getting cheaper (thats fine).

1 week in, the drop rate of the crit/haste/vers and mastery gems are so high theyre all selling for 79g each. The leviathans eye is dropping every other prospect so the value of that is destroyed.

The Azsharine and Sea Agate though? Super rare and its the one we sorta need for our recipes.

Couple all this with the fact our gear has nearly zero sockets unless you got lucky AND the competition from other JC’s who are stubborn and refuse to unlearn the trash profession, and we have a useless gold sink.

The raid hasnt even opened and the gems and enchants market is obliterated with over-saturation.

Hard to make money in any prof with 8.2 JC can’t make anything better than 310 rings, people can make their own rings in Mech. Ya not many sockets so gems rarely sell. People can make their own trinks in Mech, so Inscription trinks don’t sell. Benthic armors cost only 5 manapearls and are boa so can be passed to alts, so notorious gear slots don’t sell. Only thing that makes some money is enchanting and alchemy as they are consumables that can’t be gotten anywhere else. Maybe profs won’t exist in the next exp pack.

Almost all professions are trash now except maybe Alchemy and Enchanting.

Alchemy does the best by far. Inscription and Enchanting have roles. Blacksmithing, Tailoring, Leatherworking, and Engineering are all exclusively for the benefit of the owner. Jewelcrafting is like the other armor-based roles, except that costs ten times as much.

I find most professions are in a sad state nowadays.

I lucked out as I took alchemy/herbalism when I made this character. That combo seems to always be decent at least

Jewelcrafting is especially sad. Like unbelievable. I made my new alchemist stone, which has a socket, and so I went to buy a gem. I hadn’t gotten a krakens eye yet, so that what I was after. I figured they’d be like 4k or so since they’re new, and they’re the best gems available. Went to my auction house, pulled up krakens eye… 79 gold

79 GOLD FOR THE BEST GEM IN THE GAME!

Like wtf is that? I feel for you guys. That profession is so screwed it’s not even worth taking. Blizzard removing socketed gear was a bad move imo. Not only did it help JC, it also gave players a bit more versatility in gearing since they could choose some stats on the gear via gems

Thanks for the sympathy. While lack of sockets may be an issue, the big issue is that azsharine, which we need for our BOP items, has about one tenth the drop rate of the gems that are actually cut. Other than red and green, all the other gems are basically worthless byproduct now.

More than 250k into the profession this patch and I’ve got 6 azsharine toward the 35 I’ll need for the first rank ring. I’ve not even bothering working on it any more. Meanwhile, blacksmith has all the skillups and the first item for less than 100k.

I wouldn’t even mind if most of the 250k was to skill up, because that would at least make jewelcrafting rare. But no, almost all of it was to get enough gems for 1/6 of an item.

Its not likely to be changed anytime so Im gonna give up with Jewelcrafting.

Massive guaranteed over supply (every prospect of osmenite ore gives at least one epic gem) combined with pathetically small demand (RNG sockets)

I personally think Blizzard will make all profs null at some point to increase their money making potential. You want gold buy a token or go find some obscure pet that is popular. You could also sell dungeons or raids. Other than that I’m pretty sure they want the in game economy to be garbage when it comes to profs.

I’m so glad I finished the JC profession quest to so I could remove a gem from my gear to save gold and only need one leviathans eye gem… oof. Now I’m sitting on 100+ leviathans eye after prospecting the ludicrous amount of osmenite ore I needed for the ring.

Prospected 160 ore, got one Sea Agate. Need 35 to make 410 ring. Complete joke.

Sucks to be you! I prospected bout the same and got 3 sea agates! Now I only need 32 more…

Must be working as intended. Doubt I’ll ever get the ring crafted.

You make one and then go in LFR and get a titanforged ring that beats it. Good times.

Prospected approximately 5 thousand ore (250k gold at 10k per stack on my server). Drop rates on green/red gems where roughly in line with the %'s documented. This was just enough to get my rank 1(scrapped) & rank 2 rings and 200 of each other gem. Of course I didn’t get the stats I would prefer, and certainly can’t afford the re-roll it.

Compared to the lower cost of other crafted items, comparable strength, and how this floods the market, I can’t believe this went live.

Cost needs to be drastically reduced, or drop % increased on the green/red gems.

Most professions are not in the best state in 8.2. JC is unfortunately one of the ones hit the hardest. If you had to do any profession I would do Alchemy. Not many other options unless you strictly want to make better gear for your characters.

Most of our characters have already picked professions, though. Unlike end game raiders, we don’t change professions at the drop of a hat. And they shouldn’t be allowed to either.

Idk why you cannot just make sockets in the gear. Like seriously blizzard. You gutted professions so badly its not even a joke. Thats why i have herb alch because its the only one that makes sense anymore.
